Firozabad Man Receives Death Penalty for Murdering 18-Month-Old

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Firozabad District and Sessions Court recently awarded the death penalty to a man identified as Viraj, also known as Jitendra Pathak, following his conviction for the alleged murder of an 18-month-old boy named Aarav. This tragic case, which took place in May 2026, drew significant attention across Uttar Pradesh for its brutal nature and the shocking motives behind the crime. The court reached its decision just 40 days after the incident, underscoring the urgency of the proceedings.

On Thursday, the court found Viraj guilty, setting the stage for the sentencing that occurred the following day. Security was heightened during this phase, with the convict appearing before the court around 2:30 pm, guarded by a substantial police presence. Public Prosecutor Rajiv Priyadarshi highlighted the efficiency of the case’s investigation and prosecution, which was completed at an accelerated pace.

A total of 14 witnesses were examined during the trial, 13 of whom testified for the prosecution, while one represented the defence. The swift deliberation and collection of evidence led to a clear verdict. Upon hearing the sentence pronounced, it was reported that Viraj exhibited distress by slapping himself, suggesting a profound emotional reaction to the court’s decision.

Details of the Crime

The incident that resulted in the child’s tragic death occurred on May 30, 2026, in Yadav Colony, Shikohabad, within Firozabad district. Reports from authorities indicate that Viraj lured Aarav under the guise of purchasing sweets. However, he allegedly subjected the child to brutal treatment by slamming him onto the road multiple times, inflicting severe injuries.

Medical personnel were called to the scene, and despite their efforts, Aarav was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital. During police interrogations, Viraj reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming that his relationship with Aarav’s mother had been a source of blackmail and that he viewed the child as an impediment to his intentions of marriage with her.

Testimonies from the child’s mother corroborated Viraj’s assertion, revealing a complex and troubling dynamic. She reportedly claimed that Viraj had told her he wanted to wed her and regarded her son as an obstacle to realising that goal.

Public Reaction and Investigation Outcome

The nature of the crime and the distressing events surrounding it sparked a wave of outrage within the community, particularly following the emergence of CCTV footage capturing the violent act. This visual evidence raised alarm and highlighted the urgent need for justice in the eyes of the public.

After the crime, Viraj fled the scene but was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement during a confrontation. The investigation progressed rapidly, culminating in a charge sheet being filed within just six days, reflecting the police’s commitment to resolving the case promptly.

With the trial concluded and the death penalty imposed, this case stands out due to the rapidity of its investigation and judiciary processes. The convict’s sentence will now undergo the mandatory appeals process, marking the next steps in the legal proceedings before it can be finalised under the law.
