Ex-AAP Candidate Found Dead in Rajkot with Family Accusing Partner of Murder

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 23-year-old woman, previously an Aam Aadmi Party candidate for civic elections in Jetpur, Gujarat, was discovered deceased on June 22 in her rented accommodation in Rajkot. The police reported that although the initial investigation is treating the incident as a suicide, her family contends that she was murdered by her live-in partner, Aslam Hussain Sama.

The deceased, identified as Nandani Bosamiya, had been in a relationship with Sama for nearly a year. Sources indicate that he is already married. Investigators suggest that Bosamiya was feeling despondent due to Sama’s frequent visits to his wife in Junagadh. Her family claims the couple had been arguing prior to her death.

On the evening of June 22, Bosamiya’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her flat located near Gondal crossroads. Authorities in Rajkot have registered an accidental death case and are currently conducting an investigation.

Details of the Investigation

Assistant Commissioner of Police BJ Chaudhary stated that Bosamiya had communicated distress through a WhatsApp message sent to her younger sister shortly before her death. Reports indicate that the message suggested she was taking her own life and that no one else was accountable. The police have confiscated her mobile phone for forensic analysis, and they are in the process of gathering statements from family members and examining call records.

At this stage, the investigation primarily views the case as a suicide, although the police expressed that Sama may be called for questioning if deemed necessary. The authorities aim to ensure a thorough examination of all circumstances surrounding the incident.

Despite the police’s current stance, Bosamiya’s family vehemently disputes the suicide narrative. Rupal Bosamiya, her sister, has alleged that there were visible signs of struggle on her sister’s body, including scratches. She contended that the couple had experienced significant arguments leading up to Bosamiya’s death.

Family’s Allegations and Political Reactions

The family’s assertion of foul play is further underscored by allegations that Sama has since gone missing, with claims that his phone was switched off. Rupal Bosamiya stated, “He has been evading the situation and we strongly suspect his involvement in her death. We demand justice and immediate action.” This situation has captured public attention and drawn political commentary.

Additionally, Bosamiya previously participated in the 2025 Jetpur-Navagadh municipality elections as a candidate for the Aam Aadmi Party, although she did not secure a win. No organisational role was stated for her within the party. The case has recently garnered increased political focus, particularly after BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga’s comments on social media regarding the family’s allegations of harassment against Bosamiya.

Bagga’s post referred to claims that Bosamiya suffered mental and physical abuse at the hands of Sama and his relatives. He recounted the family’s efforts to intervene, stating that they had consistently warned her about the relationship with the married man, to which she opted to pursue despite the risks involved.

The police confirmed that they are taking all allegations seriously and will continue to scrutinise the family’s claims. Despite the ongoing investigation, initial findings treat the case as a suicide, while the inquiry remains active and comprehensive.
