Delhi University (DU) recently organised a placement drive aimed at enhancing student employment opportunities. The event, held on August 8, 2026, gathered more than 75 organisations and over 500 student participants to facilitate direct interactions between students and prospective employers. This initiative is part of DU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen connections with various industries and expand access to job opportunities for its students.

The placement drive, referred to as ‘Placement Drive 2026’, was organised by the Department of Continuing Education and Extension in partnership with the Centre for Distance and Online Education. Taking place from 11 am to 4 pm, the event was hosted in the seminar room of the department, allowing students to engage in meaningful discussions with recruiters and industry professionals.

Eligible participants included students pursuing Master’s degrees in Tourism Management and Lifelong Learning, as well as individuals enrolled in social sciences programmes and those studying through the Centre for Distance and Online Education. This inclusivity signifies DU’s commitment to providing diverse career pathways for its learners.

Organisations and Sectors Represented

The placement drive featured a wide array of organisations from various sectors, including education, healthcare, social development, and tourism. Notable organisations that participated included Janhit Society for Social Welfare, Abhiyakti Foundation, and Child Survival India, among others. This diversity in representation offered students a comprehensive look at potential career avenues.

In the tourism and hospitality sector, companies such as Uma Tourism and Holidays and Tripstride Tourism Pvt Ltd were present, providing specialised opportunities for students interested in these fields. Through meaningful interactions, students were able to learn about different roles, gain insights into industry expectations, and discuss potential job openings.

Moreover, the presence of organisations focused on human rights and research further enriched the scope of opportunities available to the students. This broad engagement is testament to the collaborative spirit that DU fosters between academia and the professional world.

Key Organisers and Future Initiatives

The placement drive received support from prominent figures within the university. Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh oversaw the event, while Payal Mago, the Director of the Campus of Open Learning, and Kumar Ashutosh, the Head of the Department of Continuing Education and Extension, served as patrons. Ajay Jaiswal, Director of the Centre for Distance and Online Education, fulfilled the role of co-patron, showcasing a collaborative organisational approach.

According to university officials, DU plans to hold similar employment-centric programmes regularly to enhance students’ opportunities to connect with employers. These initiatives are consistent with the university’s mission to equip students with necessary skills and knowledge while bridging the gap between education and employment.

Overall, the placement drive not only provided immediate job opportunities for participating students but also established a foundation for future collaborations between DU and various sectors. By continuing to organise such events, the university aims to ensure its students are well-prepared for their professional journeys.
