During a recent public meeting in Bathinda, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was vocally supported by his backers, who raised slogans urging the party to declare him as the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections. The meeting, which also featured Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, stirred significant excitement and commotion among attendees.

As Raja Warring attempted to address the assembled crowd, supporters began chanting slogans in favour of Channi. In an effort to manage the situation, Warring invited one of the supporters onto the stage, suggesting a direct call to Channi. In a related development, Congress MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa staged a protest outside the Punjab Assembly during the Monsoon Session. They accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing to manage repeated examination paper leaks, affecting around 3.5 lakh students in Punjab over the past four-and-a-half years.

Bajwa specifically mentioned that there had been six incidents of examination paper leaks during this period, asserting that the AAP administration was unable to ensure the integrity of the examination process. “In Punjab, exam papers have leaked six times over the last four and a half years—on a massive scale—affecting approximately 3.5 lakh students,” Bajwa stated. He also demanded the resignation of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, reflecting a growing concern about the quality of governance in the state.

Furthermore, Bajwa pointed fingers at the current government for failing to address pressing issues such as recruitment, law and order, and overall governance. He claimed that the system had severely deteriorated under the present administration, leading to questions regarding the legitimacy of employment processes and effectiveness of law enforcement agencies.
