Dimple Yadav, a Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party, has strongly criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government for its management of protests over the alleged NEET paper leak and students’ grievances. During a press interaction on July 21 in New Delhi, she expressed concern that the government shows little interest in discussing these critical issues affecting the education sector. Yadav emphasised the importance of the government’s attention to the concerns raised by students, who have taken to the streets to demand justice.

Yadav described the situation as a reflection of systemic failures within the government, alleging that it is entrenched in corruption. She pointed out that the youth had gathered to voice their demands for necessary educational reforms, particularly in light of the distressing incidents leading to the suicides of 20 students in connection with the paper leak. According to her, the administration’s inability to engage in meaningful dialogue exacerbates the existing issues.

In her remarks, Yadav mentioned that the young protesters, seeking accountability from the Education Minister, faced police brutality instead of constructive action. She claimed that the government’s response to their peaceful demonstrations—using force and intimidation—has shattered the aspirations of many young individuals. This, she asserted, demonstrates a broader failure to respect the voices of the youth.

Encouragement for Youth Engagement in Democracy

Dimple Yadav also conveyed a message of empowerment to the youth, urging them to bring about change through their voting power. She stated that the upcoming elections present an opportunity for them to endorse parties that genuinely aim to unseat the BJP. Yadav expressed hope that this generation will mobilise and insist on transformative policies that align with their aspirations.

On the same day, Congress leaders, such as party President Mallikarjun Kharge and prominent members including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, staged a protest at Lok Kalyan Marg. Their actions were aimed at demanding the resignations of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. This demonstration occurred shortly after both houses of Parliament, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, were adjourned amid calls for dialogue on the NEET-UG paper leak and other pressing educational issues.

Kharge notably brought attention to the “lathi-charge” that occurred during the protests, raising these concerns in the Rajya Sabha. His statements aimed to highlight the need for accountability and transparency from the government regarding the handling of students’ grievances and the broader issues within education policy.
