Dia Mirza Says Salman Khan Once Predicted She Would Play His Mother On Screen

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Dia Mirza has recalled a remark made by Salman Khan during the filming of Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge that left her stunned when she was just 19 years old. The actor shared the anecdote while appearing in director-choreographer Farah Khan’s YouTube vlog, where the two baked banana bread and reminisced about their early years in the film industry.

During the conversation, Dia revealed that Salman had jokingly predicted she would one day end up playing his mother on screen, a comment she said had “horrified” her at the time.

Dia Recalls Conversation With Salman

Looking back on the incident, Dia said she was sitting with Salman and actor Rajpal Yadav while waiting for a shot during the making of the 2002 film.

She remembered noticing that the actress portraying Salman’s mother in the film looked very young despite recently becoming a mother in real life.

“I told him, ‘She must be very young.’ He said, ‘Don’t worry, this will happen to you as well,'” Dia recalled.

Laughing about the exchange years later, she admitted that the remark had shocked her when she first heard it.

The memory resurfaced after Farah suggested that Dia and Salman should reunite on screen.

Dia jokingly observed that Salman now stars alongside younger actresses before recounting the prediction made during the early phase of her career.

Memories From Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge

The two also reminisced about the making of Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge, which released in 2002.

Dia reminded Farah about a song sequence that reportedly attracted a crowd of nearly two lakh people and asked whether she remembered how the cast and crew managed to escape the commotion and return to their hotel.

Farah, in turn, recalled shooting another song sequence at a fort, which she said was completed in half a day.

She remembered that there were no vanity vans available at the location, prompting Dia to change costumes behind a tree while Salman changed clothes in the open.

Continuing the banter, Farah joked that if Salman ever needed someone to play his mother in Matrabhoomi, he should consider casting Dia.

Farah Continues the Joke

Later in the vlog, Farah jokingly told her cook, Dilip, that Dia had been cast as Salman’s mother in an upcoming film.

When Dilip responded that Dia looked more like Salman’s younger sister, Farah replied, “Why can’t she look like his heroine? Why did you have to say younger sister?”

Film Failed to Impress at Box Office

Directed by Pankaj Parashar, Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge featured Salman Khan, Dia Mirza, Sushmita Sen and Arbaaz Khan in lead roles.

The film also starred Inder Kumar, Nishigandha Wad, Sharat Saxena, Mukesh Rishi, Rajpal Yadav, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Anjan Srivastav, Pankaj Dheer, Alok Nath, Razak Khan, Johnny Lever and Sumeet Pathak in supporting roles.

Despite boasting an ensemble cast, the romantic action drama failed to make a significant impact at the box office.

Dia Mirza had made her acting debut opposite R Madhavan in Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein after winning the Miss Asia Pacific International title.

The actor was recently seen revisiting memories from her early career, including instances where Salman Khan had come to her aid during hectic outdoor shoots.
