Delhi’s Drug Control Department Busts Illegal Sale of Medicines in Shahdara

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Drugs Control Department of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) has undertaken a significant operation against the unlawful sale of medicines in Shahdara. On April 21, 2024, a team of Drug Inspectors executed a raid following confidential information that indicated the sale of drugs without the necessary legal licences. This operation took place at premises situated in Rashid Market, Village Khureji, in Shahdara.

Details of the Operation

Investigations revealed that the premises once held a valid drug licence, which had been revoked by the relevant authority in September 2024. Despite this cancellation, the location reportedly continued to stock and sell various medicines, thereby violating the legal requirements under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

In total, authorities seized a substantial quantity of 104 different types of drugs intended for sale and distribution. They also confiscated 23 expired medications from the site. Additionally, samples of representative drug types were collected for further quality analysis, and the cash used by the decoy was retrieved from the accused.

Legal Implications and Next Steps

Moreover, the Minister stated that all procedural aspects during the search and seizure operations were meticulously followed, including ensuring that videography and proper documentation were in place to maintain evidentiary integrity. This adherence to protocol highlights the seriousness of the operation and the government’s commitment to lawful compliance in pharmaceutical sales.

Investigations are ongoing to track the origins of the seized drugs and assess the broader implications of this operation. The authorities aim to take comprehensive legal action against all parties involved in this illegal enterprise, reinforcing the necessity for stringent monitoring in the pharmaceutical sector.
