Rakshitha Sree Ramraj created a significant upset by defeating Tanvi Sharma in the women’s singles quarter-final of the Korea Masters Super 300 held in South Chungcheong Province on Friday, August 7. The 19-year-old’s resilience was on display as she rebounded from losing the first game to clinch victory against the third seed, thereby securing her place in the semi-finals.

This match highlighted the competitive spirit among young players, with both participants showcasing exceptional skills. Rakshitha’s triumph marked a pivotal moment in her season, especially following her recent performance where she won the Vietnam International Challenge in March. The victory extended her lead in their head-to-head record to 4-0 against Tanvi.

Despite a rocky start, Rakshitha managed to turn the match around after losing the opening game 18-21. Implementing tactical changes proved crucial as she secured the next two games, concluding the match with scores of 21-18 and 21-19. The entire contest lasted one hour and one minute, reflecting the intensity of the competition between the two rising stars.

In the first game, Rakshitha initially maintained a lead of 13-8 before Tanvi executed a stunning comeback. By winning eight of the next nine points, Tanvi established a 16-14 lead, eventually wrapping up the game in her favour. The second game was closely contested, with Rakshitha narrowly leading at the mid-game interval. She earned two game points after Tanvi made an error at the net. Although she missed the first opportunity, Rakshitha converted the second when Tanvi’s shot went wide, pushing the match into a deciding game.

Upcoming Semi-Final Match-up

In the deciding game, the momentum continued to shift, with Rakshitha maintaining a slight lead at the mid-game break. The scores were evenly balanced at 14-14 when Tanvi faltered, making three unforced errors that allowed Rakshitha to gain a crucial advantage of 19-16. This pivotal moment set the stage for her to earn match points.

Karshitha sealed her victory as Tanvi found the net once more, confirming Rakshitha’s place in the semi-finals. She will now face fellow Indian shuttler Ashmita Chaliha, who recently won her own quarter-final match against Japan’s top seed Hina Akechi. Ashmita, ranked World No. 50, overcame Hina in a challenging match lasting more than an hour, with final scores of 20-22, 21-15, and 21-19.

The upcoming match between Rakshitha and Ashmita is eagerly awaited, with the winner set to meet either fourth seed Han Qian Xi of China or unseeded Kim Ga Ram of South Korea in the final. This progression reinforces the growing prominence of Indian players in international badminton events.
