The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced a series of nationwide protests scheduled for Friday to address what it describes as “police brutality” during recent demonstrations regarding the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. The organisation has urged its supporters, along with student unions and civil groups, to conduct peaceful protests in every district, despite ongoing efforts by the Centre to resolve the situation through dialogue.

This call to action follows confrontations during the CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march in Delhi, where police allegedly responded with force against demonstrators in various states. The CJP has stated that such events have amplified its determination to broaden the movement beyond Delhi.

While demonstrators have reported excessive violence from law enforcement, the Delhi Police contends that the protests escalated into violence, including attacks on officers and damage to public property during the march.

Campaign Strategy and Organisation

The CJP has initiated its campaign under the slogan “Every District. One Day. One Demand.” The organisation is encouraging local event coordinators to collaborate with student unions and civil society, obtain necessary permits, and ensure the peaceful nature of the protests.

To assist in organising these demonstrations, the CJP has distributed a standard operating procedure (SOP) alongside campaign materials and a memorandum template. The guidelines direct protesters to gather at specified locations, voice students’ demands publicly, express solidarity for those allegedly subjected to police violence, and submit memorandums to district authorities.

This marks a significant shift from a focus on Delhi-centric protests to a coordinated, nationwide initiative aimed at sustaining pressure on the government regarding alleged irregularities in the examination process.

Incidents of Police Violence Drive Mobilisation

The nationwide protests are rooted in escalating confrontations between demonstrators and police. On July 20, during the CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march, thousands were halted by law enforcement near Parliament, resulting in clashes. Police employed tear gas and lathicharge to disperse sections of the crowd after some protesters sought to breach barricades.

Authorities have reported that demonstrators engaged in stone-throwing, vandalised property, and injured over 100 police personnel, while protesters allege that law enforcement’s response included excessive force, resulting in serious injuries for several participants.

Beyond Delhi, police in Patna also deployed tear gas, water cannons, and lathicharge against protesters moving towards the Governor’s residence. Additional demonstrations in solidarity have been witnessed in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa, and Rajasthan. The CJP has continuously cited these occurrences as evidence of an attempt to stifle peaceful dissent.

Government Responds with Offers of Dialogue

On Thursday, Union Health Minister JP Nadda reiterated the government’s openness to dialogue. He stated, “Yes, we are ready to talk with CJP,” inviting representatives to meet him at his official residence or office.

However, the CJP has declined this invitation for two consecutive days. CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das asserted their preference for discussions to occur in proximity to the protests, stating, “The people’s court is here. If they want to talk, it should be held at the Jantar Mantar.” He added that they would consider a neutral venue close to the protest site if security concerns were presented.
