BYC Alleges Custodial Killing of Baloch Youth by Pakistan Authorities

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has condemned the purported extrajudicial killing of a young Baloch labourer, alleging that Pakistani authorities are engaged in a systematic campaign of enforced disappearances and custodial killings in Balochistan. The allegations come in the wake of the reported death of Ajmal, a resident of Nasirabad in the Turbat district’s Kech area.

According to the rights organisation, Ajmal was forcibly disappeared from Gwadar on August 21, 2025. His family, described as impoverished and relying on daily wage labour, endured a prolonged period of uncertainty and emotional distress for 256 days, hoping for his safe return.

However, the BYC stated that their hopes were abruptly dashed when Ajmal’s body was reportedly recovered, resulting in significant outrage among Baloch activists and human rights advocates. The committee condemned this act as a severe violation of human rights, asserting that taking a person’s life without any trial and later returning the body showcased the deteriorating climate of repression in the region.

Concerns Over Enforced Disappearances

The BYC raised alarm over the ongoing trend of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, questioning how many more families will be forced to endure the anguish of waiting for their loved ones who may never return. This case has added to the growing concerns about human rights violations in the province.

With a continuation of enforced disappearances, the region has become a focal point of concern for various human rights organisations. The BYC has called for urgent international intervention and has urged global human rights organisations to take immediate notice of what they describe as a deteriorating situation.

The BYC has specifically demanded justice and accountability from both local and international authorities. The alarming pattern of disappearances and the lack of accountability contribute to an environment of fear among the local population, raising serious questions about the government’s commitment to safeguarding basic human rights.

Impact on Public Trust and Security in Balochistan

The situation in Balochistan continues to be deeply troubling, as the region grapples with a persistent trend of enforced disappearances. Some victims are eventually released, while others remain in extended detention or face targeted killings, which have exacerbated the climate of insecurity.

These violations significantly erode public trust in state institutions, compromising efforts to achieve peace and justice in the region. The ongoing threat of arbitrary arrests and the indifference towards accountability magnify insecurity among residents, who live in constant fear for their safety.

As concerns escalate, it remains imperative for human rights advocates to shine a light on the human rights condition in Balochistan. The BYC’s recent statement encapsulates the urgent need for an established framework to address these grievances and ensure the protection of fundamental rights for the people of Balochistan.
