Bundles Of Cash Discovered Along Highway In Shamli, Uttar Pradesh

The CSR Journal Magazine

A stretch of highway near Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, caused a significant stir when cash bundles were found scattered across the road. The incident occurred on the Meerut–Karnal highway, where passersby noticed Rs 500 and Rs 200 notes strewn across a considerable distance. Witnesses reported that the cash was spread over nearly 500 metres near a local bridge, prompting immediate action from the local police force.

As news of the scattered currency spread, the situation drew the attention of numerous drivers and bystanders. Among them, a concerned passerby promptly alerted the authorities, leading to a rapid police response. Officers arrived on the scene to collect the notes, which were lying haphazardly on the ground.

Initial reactions from eyewitnesses ranged from confusion to curiosity, as many had never encountered such a sight. Fortunately, instead of seizing the opportunity to take the money, several locals acted responsibly by contacting law enforcement, ensuring the situation was addressed legally.

Law Enforcement Collects A Total Of Rs 4 Lakh

The police efficiently gathered the scattered currency and transported it to the local police station for reconciliation. Subsequent counting confirmed that the total amount retrieved amounted to Rs 4 lakh. This discovery raised questions about the money’s origin and how it came to be abandoned on the highway.

Officials indicated that several of the bundles contained bank slips, indicating that the cash had likely been withdrawn recently. This detail has led to speculation about whether the money fell from a vehicle in transit, further complicating the investigation.

As the investigation progresses, the police have secured the recovered cash in their malkhana, or storeroom, while actively pursuing leads to ascertain the rightful owner. They are diligently checking CCTV footage from surrounding areas to track down the source of the cash and clarify the circumstances surrounding its discovery.

Ongoing Investigation With No Claims Filed Yet

As of now, no individuals or entities have formally reported the loss of the substantial sum uncovered on the highway. According to Police Superintendent Sumit Shukla, “We are yet to receive any complaints regarding a missing amount of this magnitude.” This lack of claims has only intensified efforts to locate the original owner.

The police are also reaching out to local banks to trace the origins of the withdrawn cash and identify the circumstances that led to its deposition on the road. They have encouraged anyone who believes they may have lost the money to approach the police station with appropriate proof.

The incident highlights the need for caution amongst individuals involved in large cash transactions. As the investigation continues, local authorities are committed to resolving the matter and ensuring that proper channels are followed to reunite the cash with its rightful owner.
