Assam Government’s latest initiative for school education with a focus on children of tea gardens

Starting today, the Government of Assam will be inaugurating 38 new secondary level schools across the state to provide better educational opportunities to children, especially those residing in areas adjacent to the tea gardens. Keeping in mind the education of children residing in and around tea gardens, 19 of these new schools have been located in these regions.
“Starting from June 19th to June 25th, we will dedicate 38 new secondary schools to our student community. Out of the 38 schools, 19 will be in our tea garden area. We are committed to transformative changes in the field of education,” Honourable Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on social media.

Facilities

These CBSE affiliated English medium schools will be equipped with smart classes and modern laboratories for science. All the teachers and principals of these schools will be trained by experts. An initiative named ‘Project Child’ is being started to monitor the physical/mental growth and development of the students and their achievements. Apart from curriculum-based education, students will be taken out to educational tours; they will be made to take part in science exhibitions, debates, discussions, workshops and sports.
For the schools located in tea garden areas, mid-day meal will be provided to the students. Also, the students will be provided with school uniforms and stationery for free.

Location

On Monday, Ranoj Pegu, Cabinet Minister for Higher Education, School Education, Tribal Affairs, Government of Assam inaugurated a Model High School at Nahartoli Tea Garden in Dibrugarh.

The new schools are located across Goalpara, Barpeta, Tinsukia, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Kamrup, Sonitpur, Dhubri, Cachar, Charaideo, Sivasagar and Lakhimpur.

Prime Minister lauds

Lauding the efforts of the state government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it a ‘Commendable initiative’ especially for residents of tea garden areas.
“Commendable initiative. Education is the bedrock of a prosperous nation and these new secondary schools will provide a strong foundation for the youth. Especially pleased to hear about the commitment towards the tea garden areas,” the PM tweeted.
