Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has alleged that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi committed acts of extreme brutality against unarmed students. This assertion followed a protest march toward the Parliament regarding the alleged leak of the NEET-UG 2026 examination papers. In a press briefing held at Jantar Mantar, Kejriwal claimed that police employed excessive force against demonstrators who were ostensibly marching peacefully to voice their concerns.

According to Kejriwal, the participants in the protest did not carry any weapons or implements that could be used for violence. He stated that as they approached the seat of government, they were met with unprovoked lathi-charges by the Delhi Police. Reports from the protest indicate that multiple students sustained serious injuries, including head trauma and fractures.

Allegations of Continued Examination Irregularities

Kejriwal further criticised the government for a pattern of alleged failures in managing examinations fairly. The AAP leader maintained that the recurring incidents of paper leaks demonstrate serious systemic issues. He expressed that the students were solely advocating for an end to these malpractice incidents, claiming that it is unacceptable for students to face violence while seeking legitimate reform.

In his comments, he pointed out that the Prime Minister’s inability to conduct examinations properly underscores a lack of leadership on this issue. He reiterated that the purpose of the march was to demand a reliable examination system free from leaks, yet, according to him, the students were met with violent resistance instead of constructive dialogue.

Kejriwal also alleged that several students were detained and that false cases had been lodged against them following the protest. To assist those affected, he announced the creation of a helpline aimed at locating missing students and providing necessary legal support.

Continued Calls for Action and Investigation

The AAP leader urged students to persist in their protests and not to lose heart in their struggle for reform. He highlighted key demands, which include the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, an overhaul of the examination system, prevention of future paper leaks, and broader reforms in the education sector.

His visit to the Mandir Marg Police Station on the day of the protest provided him with information about those detained during the demonstration. Kejriwal tweeted about encountering a larger number of arrests than previously reported, indicating that investigations were still ongoing. He mentioned that while some students were released, others were still being processed by the police.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal took the step of writing a letter to New Delhi’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sachin Sharma, requesting transparency regarding the FIRs filed and the individuals detained post-protest. He called for the public release of the information to facilitate legal assistance for the students involved.

Amidst the ongoing investigations into the protests, Delhi Police confirmed that five FIRs have been registered for incidents involving stone-pelting, vandalism, and unlawful assembly. Over 118 police personnel reportedly sustained injuries during the violent confrontation, as well as around 60 protesters, indicating the significant fallout from the protests. Authorities are currently reviewing extensive video footage to assess the events leading up to the violence and the role of social media in coordinating protest activities.
