Anthropic Launches Claude Tag, Bringing AI Teammates Into Slack Conversations

The CSR Journal Magazine

Anthropic has introduced a new enterprise feature called Claude Tag that allows its AI assistant to participate directly in workplace conversations, moving beyond the traditional chatbot model of responding only when prompted.

Integrated into Slack, the feature enables employees to invite Claude into discussions using an @Claude mention. Once added to a conversation, the AI can analyse discussions, summarise information, break down assignments and assist teams in progressing projects without requiring users to repeatedly provide background context.

AI Designed to Retain Context Across Conversations

A key feature of Claude Tag is its ability to maintain awareness of ongoing discussions over time. According to Anthropic, the AI continuously learns from the Slack channels it is authorised to access, allowing it to build a broader understanding of a team’s work and priorities.

If given permission, Claude can also draw relevant information from other channels across an organisation, helping users access context that may otherwise be scattered across multiple discussions.

Anthropic describes the system as a shared digital teammate rather than a personal assistant. Since all members of a Slack channel interact with the same Claude identity, conversations can continue seamlessly even when different team members engage with the AI at different times.

From Responding to Proactively Assisting

Beyond answering questions, Claude Tag has been designed to take a more active role in workplace collaboration.

The AI can remind teams about overlooked tasks, surface updates from other parts of the organisation and highlight information that may be relevant to ongoing projects.

When assigned a task, Claude is capable of breaking it into smaller steps and working through them using the tools, documents and data sources it has been authorised to access.

The approach reflects a broader shift in enterprise AI development, where companies are increasingly seeking systems that can actively support workflows rather than merely provide information on request.

Access Controls and Enterprise Rollout

Anthropic said organisations will retain full control over what information Claude can access. Administrators can determine which channels, documents and tools are available to the AI and can also create separate Claude identities for different departments.

The company said these controls are designed to ensure information remains compartmentalised and does not automatically flow between teams unless explicitly permitted.

Claude Tag will initially be rolled out in beta for Slack users subscribed to Claude Enterprise and Claude Team plans.

The launch comes as competition intensifies among artificial intelligence companies seeking to expand their presence in the enterprise market. Businesses are increasingly adopting AI tools to improve collaboration, streamline project management and automate routine tasks.

Anthropic said strong demand from corporate customers has fuelled growth in its business. The company recently filed confidential paperwork for an initial public offering and continues to expand its portfolio of workplace-focused AI products.
