Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, hoisted the national flag at his home in New Delhi on August 13 as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative, which aims to enhance patriotism ahead of India’s Independence Day. In a message shared on social media platform X, Shah remarked on the campaign’s significance in inspiring pride among citizens.

Shah stated that the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative, conceived under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, invigorates the patriotic spirit within every Indian. He expressed appreciation for the movement’s role in forging a stronger national identity, saying that millions across the country are embracing the flag while promoting unity under the slogan “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”

Activities Linked to the Campaign

On the same day, several other officials showed their support for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign by engaging in various activities. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu inaugurated a Tiranga Rally, reinforcing the campaign’s ethos. Kinjarapu highlighted the importance of the Tiranga and the nation’s unified spirit, sharing his thoughts on X regarding the celebratory event.

‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ is part of the larger Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which seeks to encourage citizens to display the national flag in homes and public spaces as a tribute to India’s independence. This year is particularly significant as the nation prepares for its 80th Independence Day, alongside the commemoration of 150 years of the national song, ‘Vande Mataram.’

The campaign’s core activities include processions, exhibitions featuring the Tiranga, bike rallies, and musical performances themed around the national flag. To further engage the public, there are planned lighting displays at prominent sites and cultural decorations, along with Rangoli programmes across the country.

Government’s Vision for National Unity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi previously called upon citizens to take part in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative, linking it to his vision for a progressive India. He underscored the unique significance of this year’s campaign due to its alignment with the sesquicentennial anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram.’ Modi encouraged active participation, viewing the Tiranga as a source of motivation for national service.

In his message, he appealed to people to honour the flag, which he described as a symbol of pride and unity. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the initiative would prompt citizens to reaffirm their commitment to contributing to the development of a prosperous India.

This year’s campaign not only celebrates 80 years of independence but also honours the enduring legacy of ‘Vande Mataram,’ which has played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s cultural and national identity. The festivities are designed to evoke a sense of belonging and responsibility among the populace.
