Ajit Doval to Be Honoured with Lokmanya Tilak National Award in Pune

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will be presented with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award on August 1 in Pune. This recognition, awarded by the Lokmanya Tilak Smarak Trust, acknowledges Doval’s significant contributions to India’s national security. The ceremony coincides with the 106th death anniversary of renowned freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and will take place at the Kataria High School Ground in Mukundnagar.

Distinguished Guests to Attend the Event

The event will feature several prominent dignitaries as chief guests, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar. Rohit Tilak, the President of the Lokmanya Tilak Smarak Trust, will officiate the award presentation.

During a recent press conference, Tilak emphasised Doval’s impactful contributions towards bolstering India’s national security framework. He noted Doval’s roles in counter-terrorism operations, strategic intelligence, border security, and defence policy as pivotal to national safety.

The Trust also highlighted Doval’s involvement in several critical national security missions, which include Operation Sindoor, Operation Hot Pursuit, the Balakot Air Strike, and significant diplomatic undertakings during the Doklam standoff.

Recognition of Doval’s Career and Achievements

Ajit Doval has had a distinguished career, serving in various capacities within India’s intelligence and security landscape. As a retired officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) from the Kerala cadre, Doval joined the Intelligence Bureau in 1972, eventually rising to the role of Director before his retirement in 2005. Since 2014, he has been serving as India’s National Security Advisor and holds the distinction of being the country’s longest-serving figure in this role.

His extensive experience includes crucial contributions to counter-insurgency operations in regions such as Mizoram and Punjab, as well as significant intelligence operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Doval has also played essential roles in notable events, including Operation Black Thunder and India’s strategic response following the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, which included the decisive Balakot Air Strike.

Details of the Award and Its History

The Lokmanya Tilak National Award is accompanied by a memento, a citation, and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. Established in 1983, this award seeks to honour individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the nation. Over the years, the award has been bestowed upon numerous illustrious recipients, including prominent political figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Indira Gandhi, and Manmohan Singh.

Other notable recipients include former President Pranab Mukherjee, political leaders such as Sharad Pawar and Nitin Gadkari, and business personalities like N.R. Narayana Murthy and Dr Cyrus Poonawalla. The Trust reaffirmed the continued relevance of Lokmanya Tilak’s guiding principles—Swarajya, Swadeshi, National Education, and Boycott—in contemporary India.
