Aadhaar App Can Now Hold Up To Five Profiles On One Phone

The CSR Journal Magazine

The new Aadhaar App allows users to manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single smartphone, streamlining the process for families with multiple members. This innovation aims to mitigate the need for carrying several physical documents or toggling between different records. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) confirmed this feature, promoting the concept of “One Family One App.”

Features of the New Aadhaar App

The Aadhaar App serves as the official mobile platform developed by UIDAI, available on both Android and iOS devices. It provides various services related to Aadhaar, enabling users to register by inputting their Aadhaar number, selecting a relevant SIM card, completing face authentication, and establishing a six-digit PIN for secure access. This blend of accessibility and security marks a significant advancement in managing personal identity details digitally.

Among its notable features, the ability to manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on one device is particularly advantageous for families. By using a single smartphone, family members can conveniently access or display their Aadhaar credentials without needing to handle multiple physical documents. UIDAI has specifically outlined the capacity to create five distinct profiles within the app.

The app is designed to serve the needs of users, particularly those requiring digital access to their Aadhaar information frequently. This update fits into UIDAI’s broader initiative to enhance the digital infrastructure surrounding Aadhaar services.

Adding a Minor’s Aadhaar Profile

The Aadhaar App also supports the addition of a minor’s Aadhaar profile under specific conditions. UIDAI states that if a guardian’s relationship is established through biometric authentication during the Aadhaar enrolment process, the minor can be incorporated into the app. The minor needs to input their Aadhaar number, after which the guardian must complete face authentication to finalise the addition.

If the minor has completed the Mandatory Biometric Update, they may alternatively conduct face authentication for profile addition. This approach ensures that physical supervision is maintained while expanding digital access to Aadhaar for younger users.

This functionality recognises the importance of facilitating Aadhaar access for all family members, irrespective of age, while maintaining stringent security protocols.

Additional Services Offered by the Aadhaar App

The Aadhaar App goes beyond simple profile management, offering numerous Aadhaar-related services. Current functionalities include the ability to update mobile numbers and addresses, lock and unlock biometric data, review authentication history, download e-Aadhaar, and track requests. Furthermore, users can selectively share their Aadhaar credentials with consent, catering to identity verification requirements.

Another crucial aspect of the app is its security measures. Users must undergo authentication during registration and set a six-digit PIN to access the app. Additionally, biometric lock and unlock features are available, allowing users to manage their Aadhaar biometrics effectively.

While the app provides a variety of services, not every Aadhaar update can be managed through it. UIDAI specifies that changes to name, gender, email, and date of birth are not supported within the app, as well as updates to photographs, fingerprints, and iris details, which necessitate a visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre.

Impact on Family Convenience

The capacity to manage five profiles within a single app simplifies digital Aadhaar access for families significantly. By consolidating various profiles onto one device, eligible family members can easily access their digital identity without needing multiple phones or documents. This development emphasises UIDAI’s commitment to enhancing convenience, security, and digital accessibility while encouraging users to move away from traditional documentation.

As Aadhaar continues to adapt to the needs of users, this update represents a substantial step towards more integrated and user-friendly digital identity management solutions in India. The initiative aims to support the growing demand for seamless access to personal identity information in an increasingly digital world.
