28 Arrested in Rajasthan’s Fake Doctor Racket, Over 100 Under Scanner

A major racket of medical documents forging has busted in Rajasthan. Many MBBS graduates from foreign universities who failed the mandatory Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) in India have been allegedly transformed into practicing doctors with the help of forged documents, fake registrations, and illegal internships. Massive crackdown done by the SOG (Special Operations Group) of Rajasthan Police, till now 28 people arrested in this connection. Among the arrested are the alleged kingpin Bhanaram Mali and his partner former Rajasthan Medical Council (RMC) registrar Rajesh Sharma.

Investigation so far

As per police investigation, there is a network that enabled foreign medical graduates who failed eligibility test to obtain temporary registrations and practice medicine. The racket mostly targeted those students who had completed their MBBS from Kazakhstan and Russia. The racket charged between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 30 lakh in order to obtain academic records, registrations.

During the crackdown, SOG also arrested fake doctors named Deepak Yadav, Raju Gurjar, and Naresh Gurjar. Deepak Yadav had completed his MBBS from Kazakhstan and had failed the FMGE, he allegedly paid around Rs 24 lakh to get fake certificates.

Another fake doctor Raju Gurjar had also paid around Rs 27 lakh to secure a fake degree, and Naresh Gurjar allegedly paid Rs 23 lakh to obtain forged documents. As per investigating officials Naresh had not only secured degree for himself and was practicing but even acted as a middleman, helped recruiting other candidates into the network and earned commissions.

Operating across many districts of Rajasthan

The racket was allegedly operating from many districts like Jaipur, Alwar, Dausa, Bharatpur, Karauli, and Sawai Madhopur. It is being suspected that the racket has been functioning for many years and has helped many ineligible candidates to enter the healthcare system. After the racket busted, over 100 doctors are under the scanner and probe is undergoing.

Investigating officials called this case not just financial fraud, but more than that risking public health.

In the periphery of the investigation, government officials, hospitals, and institutions that facilitated the fraudulent registrations and internships are also under scanner.
