Yashvardhan Chauhan Appointed Captain of India U-19 Team for Sri Lanka Tour

Gwalior is celebrating as Yashvardhan Singh Chauhan has been named the captain of the Indian Under-19 cricket team for the forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka. This appointment marks a notable milestone in the young cricketer’s career, emphasising the growing talent pool from central India. Chauhan, a student at The Scindia School, is praised for his calm batting approach and innate leadership skills.

His ascension through the cricketing ranks has garnered attention at the domestic level, and being named captain is seen as recognition for his consistent performances and maturity that surpasses his age. This development has generated considerable enthusiasm among cricket fans, coaches, and supporters in Gwalior and neighbouring regions.

Team Composition and Regional Representation

Alongside Chauhan, Lakshya Raichandani has been appointed as the vice-captain. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for both the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and multi-day formats as part of this initiative. In addition to Chauhan’s leadership, there is pride in the Chambal region with the inclusion of Manal Chauhan in the India Under-19 squad as well, reinforcing the strong representation from the area within the youth setup.

The India U-19 team’s preparatory training camp is scheduled to commence on June 23, 2026, ahead of their departure for Sri Lanka on June 30, 2026. This tour will present a challenging schedule that includes three ODIs and two multi-day matches, providing valuable experience for the young talents. The first ODI will take place in Hambantota on July 4, 2026, marking the start of their overseas campaign.

The selections have been positively received throughout the region, with numerous coaches, officials, and cricket enthusiasts congratulating both Yashvardhan and Lakshya. Many have expressed their belief that the duo will seize this opportunity and represent India commendably on the international platform.

Match Schedule for the Tour

The schedule for the India U-19 team’s matches during the Sri Lanka tour has been officially outlined. The first One-Day International is set for July 4, 2026, in Hambantota, followed by the second ODI on July 6, 2026, also in Hambantota, and concluding with the third ODI on July 9, 2026. The team will then engage in two multi-day matches, with the first taking place in Galle from July 13 to July 16, 2026, followed by the second multi-day game in Colombo from July 23 to July 26, 2026.

The squads have been announced for both the ODI and multi-day formats. The players selected for the ODI squad include Sagar Virk, Lakshya Raichandani (vice-captain), Yashvardhan Singh Chauhan (captain), and other promising youngsters. Similarly, the multi-day squad comprises the same core group, bolstered by additional promising talent.

This tour is expected to be a significant experience for the young players, allowing them to showcase their skills and build on their emerging careers. With an experienced leadership team in place, the cricket community is optimistic about their performance in Sri Lanka.
