Woman Dies in Jamui Pre-Wedding Attack; Family Injured and Jewellery Looted

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recent celebrations of a wedding-bound family in Jamui district of Bihar turned tragic when armed assailants reportedly invaded their home. This shocking event occurred late Sunday night in Dadpur village, situated within the Jhajha police station jurisdiction, just one day before the family was set to celebrate the marriage on July 1. The attack resulted in injuries to six family members, and the family’s joy was abruptly replaced by mourning.

According to police and accounts from family members, masked intruders barged into the house while wedding preparations were in progress. The assailants, armed with sharp weapons, allegedly assaulted the residents, fired gunshots, and made off with jewellery and valuables that had been procured for the ceremony.

Casualties and Immediate Response

Among the injured was 35-year-old Baby Devi, who tragically succumbed to her injuries while being transported to Patna for advanced medical care. Six other individuals sustained injuries during the brutal attack. Upon receiving emergency calls about the incident, personnel from the Dial-112 response unit arrived promptly at the scene and took the wounded to a local hospital in Jhajha.

After an initial assessment, Baby Devi and several others—Suhaga Devi, Kajal Kumari, Komal Kumari and Subodh Kumar—were referred to Jamui Sadar Hospital and subsequently transferred to Patna for specialised treatment. The rapid response of the police was critical amidst the chaos, yet the details surrounding the attack have left many questions unanswered.

Family member Umesh Yadav mentioned that he had gone to Jhajha market to purchase items for his daughter Kajal Kumari’s wedding. Several family members were resting on the rooftop when the assailants struck. The attack was sudden and violent, leaving the family struggling to comprehend the tragedy that had unfolded.

Details of the Attack

The family claims that approximately a dozen masked men, clad in black and wielding swords and axes, invaded their home. Allegations suggest that the attackers had parked their motorcycles in the vicinity, about 200 metres from the residence before launching their assault.

Kajal Kumari indicated that the attackers fired two to three rounds during their assault, with one bullet reportedly injuring her mother, Suhaga Devi, in the leg. In addition to the physical harm inflicted, the robbers seized mobile phones and jewellery that had been set aside for the wedding. The chaotic atmosphere was filled with cries for help, prompting nearby villagers and relatives to rush to the scene.

However, by the time assistance arrived, the offenders had already fled on motorcycles, complicating immediate recovery efforts. The family suspects that the violent act may be linked to an ongoing land dispute, and several relatives have accused Vasudev Yadav, a family member, of orchestrating the attack with accomplices. They allege that they have identified multiple individuals among the attackers.

Investigation and Community Impact

Although police have not confirmed the familial allegations, officials have stated that suspects have been identified. Mintu Kumar Singh, the in-charge of Jhajha police station, reported that ongoing raids are in place to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

This vicious attack has overshadowed what was intended to be a joyful celebration, plunging the family into mourning just days prior to the wedding ceremony. The community is shaken, reflecting on the need for enhanced safety measures in light of such violent incidents.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident, as the family seeks justice and healing in the wake of their tragic loss.
