The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has marked a significant milestone in India’s youth-led protests surrounding the NEET-UG crisis. After several weeks of escalating demonstrations, this event took place on Saturday, drawing attention to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which led the charge at Jantar Mantar since June 6.

Members of the CJP celebrated achieving this major goal, as expressed by the movement’s founder, Abhijeet Dipke, through a video message following Pradhan’s departure from his position. He reiterated the continuity of their struggle, stating that their demands extend beyond just the resignation, focusing also on compensation for families of students whose tragedies were linked to the examination crisis.

Several factors contribute to these delays, including legal disputes and administrative inefficiencies, which leave numerous vacant posts unfilled while candidates await announcements of examinations.

As it transitions from initial objectives aimed at examination reforms, the potential to broaden its focus to include employment issues, recruitment transparency, and accountability is apparent.
