Weapons and Ammunition Discovered Buried on TMC Leader’s Land

The CSR Journal Magazine

Authorities report that three double-barrel guns and multiple cartridges wrapped in black plastic were unearthed on a property owned by Sujit Saha, a leader from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. This discovery took place during a police raid on Friday, with both Sujit Saha and his elder brother, Ajit Saha, present at the site to assist with the investigation.

According to police reports, the firearms and ammunition were found carefully concealed in a corner of the property. The materials had reportedly been wrapped in plastic before being buried, indicating an effort to hide their presence. This finding raises concerns regarding the potential implications for the individuals involved and the political climate in the region.

Context of the Incident

The timing of this discovery is significant, occurring amid ongoing challenges faced by the TMC. The party has been navigating a turbulent period characterised by organisational difficulties and losses in recent elections, particularly following their defeat to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the West Bengal Assembly polls. This backdrop adds a layer of complexity to the situation involving the Saha brothers.

Furthermore, Sujit and Ajit Saha were arrested on Wednesday night prior to the discovery, facing serious allegations including extortion, criminal intimidation, and involvement in violent incidents that occurred after the 2021 elections. Their arrests have prompted police investigations into broader criminal activities associated with them.

In previous raids linked to the ongoing investigation of the Saha brothers, authorities recovered approximately Rs 27 lakh in cash, as well as additional firearms, cartridges, and bottles of foreign liquor. This series of events suggests a pattern of illicit activities connected to the suspects.

Ongoing Investigation Developments

As investigations proceed, police are scrutinising information obtained during interrogations of the Saha brothers to ascertain the origins of the recovered weapons. Law enforcement is particularly focused on determining whether these firearms were utilized in any criminal acts beyond their concealed presence on the property.

On Thursday, Sujit and Ajit Saha were presented in the District and Sessions Court located in Barasat. The court subsequently ordered their remand into police custody to facilitate further inquiries, signifying the seriousness of the situation and the focus on uncovering any potential connections to broader criminal networks.

Police officials have emphasised the importance of this investigation, which aims to clarify not only the circumstances surrounding the buried weapons but also the implications for local law enforcement and the political landscape in West Bengal. The search for comprehensive answers continues as authorities work through the complexities presented by this case.
