Hyderabad Police successfully rescued a four-day-old girl after thwarting an alleged attempt to sell her in a sting operation. The operation resulted in the arrest of a woman reportedly involved in facilitating the sale. The suspect has been identified as Waheeda Khatoon, who resides in Chandrayangutta, located in the old city of Hyderabad.

According to police reports, Khatoon approached a woman named Meharunnisa at Peeli Dargah in Barkas, offering the newborn for sale. Initially, the infant was valued at Rs 6 lakh, but during negotiations, the price was reduced to Rs 5 lakh. The intended transaction location was initially in Shaheen Nagar but was subsequently moved to an area near JGR Function Hall in Pahadi Shareef.

Police Action and Community Involvement

Acting on credible information, law enforcement agencies initiated a prompt operation with the assistance of social activist Safiya Mahi. Mahi collaborated with the police to set up a trap aimed at intercepting the proposed sale. Authorities moved in just as the transaction was about to take place, ensuring the baby girl was rescued without harm and Khatoon was detained on-site.

The investigation revealed that the infant’s biological mother, a resident of Golconda, had given birth to the child on Tuesday. She was reportedly discharged from a hospital in Malakpet on the same day that law enforcement conducted the rescue operation. This raises additional questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the attempt to sell the newborn.

In light of these findings, police are now looking into whether a broader child trafficking network may be involved in this case.
