The Indian Embassy in China recently confirmed that Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami conducted an introductory meeting with Liu Jinsong, the Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Xu Feihong remarked on the constructive and in-depth discussions that took place among the BRICS nations during the meeting held from May 14 to 15. He mentioned the dynamic global landscape and the necessity for cooperation among BRICS countries. Feihong expressed China’s readiness to deepen solidarity with all member countries, indicating a strong commitment to multilateral cooperation.

Feihong noted that the Chair’s Statement and Outcome Document generated by the meeting displayed a broad consensus on various international and regional issues. The discussions further addressed future developments within the BRICS framework, alongside necessary reforms in global governance and the multilateral system. These points underscore the collaborative efforts of the member states to face evolving challenges collectively.

On social media platform X, Ambassador Feihong reiterated China’s position as the incoming Chair for the next BRICS summit, confirming the country’s commitment to working closely with all partners. The Chinese envoy expressed anticipation in welcoming representatives to China for the next meeting, which highlights the importance of continued engagement within the BRICS framework.

Presentation Of Credentials

On May 7, 2026, Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami formally presented a copy of his credentials to Hong Lei, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director-General of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. This event took place in Beijing and marked the official recognition of Doraiswami’s diplomatic status as the Indian ambassador to China.

The Embassy of India in Beijing shared this information via a post on X, stressing the significance of the credential presentation in solidifying diplomatic relations between India and China.
