In a significant decision, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation has announced plans to relocate all meat and fish shops currently operating within the city limits. Currently, there are approximately 350 to 400 meat and fish shops functioning within the city. The relocation is part of a broader initiative to enhance sanitation and streamline market operations. Public Relations Officer Sandeep Srivastava confirmed that the relocation will be completed within the next six months, thus ensuring continued access to these essential goods.

Despite the benefits outlined, concerns have emerged from local traders regarding the proposed changes. Corporator Gulshan Ali mentioned that a similar proposal was made nearly a year ago, but the plan had not been executed effectively. Traders fear that upcoming relocations, especially during the holy month of Shravan, could severely impact their livelihoods.
