The CSR Journal Magazine

The Uttarakhand government has announced its plan to create the first ‘Agniveer Employment Cell’ in India, as stated by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. This initiative is intended to provide a structured platform where skill development, employment guidance, and job opportunities for Agniveers are effectively coordinated. Dhami highlighted the importance of this initiative in his recent social media update, emphasising the commitment to honouring the contributions of soldiers dedicated to national defence.

The establishment of this cell comes as part of a wider effort to support Agniveers, showcasing the government’s resolve to ensure their honour and welfare. According to Dhami, the cell is to act as a crucial link between Agniveers and prospects across both government and private sectors.

Focus on Skill Development and Employment Opportunities

In addition to coordinating skill development efforts, the ‘Agniveer Employment Cell’ will aim to provide essential guidance for employment in various fields. The Chief Minister noted that the cell will facilitate access to opportunities within the police force, disaster management sectors, and the forest department. He affirmed the government’s ongoing commitment to leverage the unique skills and discipline of Agniveers for the betterment of the state.

Moreover, Dhami reiterated that his government has implemented a 10 per cent horizontal reservation for Agniveers within state government services. This reservation is part of broader efforts to enhance employment prospects for these individuals as they transition back to civilian life.

The Chief Minister pledged that the cell would not only help Agniveers find jobs but also ensure that their skills are harnessed effectively in contributing to the state’s development initiatives.

Support for Self-Employment Initiatives

During the Yuva Agniveer Samvad Programme held in Dehradun, Dhami also announced additional support measures aimed at enhancing economic opportunities for ex-servicemen and Agniveers. As part of this initiative, a dedicated grant under the Homestay Scheme is to be supplemented with special provisions for these groups. These measures are designed to further assist Agniveers in establishing their own self-employment ventures.

The government aims to prioritise benefits in schemes related to self-employment for returning Agniveers. Dhami articulated that the overarching goal is to empower them not just to seek government employment, but also to foster an environment conducive to self-sufficiency and job creation.

The Chief Minister expressed a determined vision for returning Agniveers, stating that they should not only have the means to support themselves but also contribute to job creation within their communities. Through the establishment of this dedicated cell, the government aspires to facilitate a seamless transition for Agniveers into various sectors, promoting both individual and communal economic growth.
