In a recent correspondence, US President Donald Trump has reached out to Bangladesh’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman. This letter marks Trump’s inaugural communication with Rahman since the latter took office. In the letter, Trump emphasizes the need to enhance the relationship between the United States and Bangladesh, advocating for significant advancements in defence cooperation.

Trump’s letter articulates his expectation for Rahman to take “decisive action” towards finalizing routine defence agreements, which the US leader believes will enable the Bangladeshi military access to high-quality American military equipment. The president underscored that such equipment is considered to be among the best available globally.

He expressed hope that Rahman would assist in sustaining the strong momentum of trade through the implementation of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, which is designed to benefit farmers and workers in both countries. The president’s message suggests a focus on fostering economic ties alongside military collaboration.

Furthermore, Trump conveyed his confidence in the US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent Christensen, affirming that the ambassador will play a significant role in facilitating this cooperation.
