US Plans Renewed Military Strikes on Iran Following President Trump’s China Visit

The CSR Journal Magazine

The United States is reportedly considering a return to military operations against Iran, as peace negotiations remain stalled. The New York Times has indicated that US officials have drawn up plans following President Donald Trump’s two-day trip to China, during which he allegedly discussed key issues pertaining to the Iran situation and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a pivotal maritime chokepoint. Trump’s aides suggested that no final decision has been made regarding the resumption of strikes, which have been on hold since a ceasefire was declared on April 7.

Trump has consistently dismissed Iran’s peace proposals, deeming them inadequate in addressing crucial US demands: preventing Iran from developing nuclear capabilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The president reiterated these points while travelling back to Washington DC aboard Air Force One. With mid-term elections approaching in November, he faces a challenging political landscape, as public opinion increasingly turns against the military engagement in Iran, primarily due to its financial implications for average Americans.

Many allies of the US are advocating for a resolution that could lead to a compromise, enabling Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz and giving Trump an opportunity to assert a diplomatic victory.

Preparation for Operation Epic Fury 2.0

The Pentagon is reportedly preparing for a renewed military offensive, termed Operation Epic Fury 2.0, as they have not yet succeeded in their objective to denuclearise Iran. According to The New York Times report, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth informed Congress that a plan to escalate military actions is in place if deemed necessary.

Sources from the Middle East, who requested anonymity, disclosed that both the United States and Israel are intensively gearing up for potential attacks against Iran, potentially beginning as early as next week. President Trump was quoted expressing the belief that Iran would either agree to a deal or face significant military consequences, asserting that either outcome would result in a win for the US.

If President Trump opts to resume airstrikes, US officials have indicated that Iranian military infrastructure could be targeted with increased force. The president had previously threatened to attack Iran’s civilian infrastructure, a statement that drew widespread condemnation as a potential violation of international law.

Iran Prepares for Possible Conflict

In response to the escalating tensions, Iranian officials have conveyed their readiness to confront any aggressions. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, stated on social media that Iran’s armed forces are equipped to respond to any attacks. He warned that misguided strategies would lead to adverse outcomes, asserting that Iran is prepared for all scenarios.

Intelligence reports suggest that Iran has re-established operational access to most of its missile infrastructure, including various launch sites. Officials noted that Iran has regained control over 30 out of 33 missile sites along the Strait of Hormuz, enhancing its potential threat to naval and commercial vessels traversing this vital waterway, which carries a significant share of the global oil trade.

The current geopolitical landscape highlights a critical juncture, with both nations on alert and the stakes particularly high. As preparations for military operations intensify, the situation remains fluid, with significant implications for regional stability and international relations.
