Trump Claims US Will Win War With Iran By Any Means Necessary

The CSR Journal Magazine

US President Donald Trump, on May 12, stated that the United States military will succeed in its conflict with Iran, whether that outcome is achieved peacefully or otherwise. This declaration came as he addressed reporters prior to his departure for China. Trump affirmed his position regarding Iran’s military capabilities, asserting that they have been severely diminished.

When questioned about the potential involvement of Chinese President Xi Jinping in mediating with Iran, Trump expressed confidence in the US’s handling of the situation without external assistance. He remarked, “No, I don’t think we need any help with Iran. We’ll win it one way or the other.” His statements suggest a firm belief in an eventual US victory, which he claims will come through various means.

Speaking further on Iran, Trump argued that the country has incurred significant military defeats, stating, “They’ll either do the right thing or we’ll finish the job.” His emphatic tone reflects a commitment to resolving the tensions through assertive measures.

Blockade Asserted as Highly Effective

Trump also characterised the ongoing blockade against Iran as “100% effective.” He stated that the blockade is functioning optimally and expressed optimism about its future outcomes. According to Trump, the US will eventually see a substantial increase in oil production, suggesting, “I think you’re going to have so much oil, you’re going to have a gusher of oil like you’ve never had before.” His comments indicate an expectation of not only military success but also economic gain as a result of the intensified measures against Iran.

Additionally, Trump took the opportunity to criticise NATO, describing the alliance as disappointing in its responsiveness to US needs. He alleged that NATO was not present during moments when assistance was required, stating, “We don’t need NATO. But if we did need them, they just weren’t there.” His remarks suggest a growing disenchantment with NATO’s role in global security.

NATO’s Position Amidst Growing Tensions

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte acknowledged the significant challenges posed by the escalating crisis with Iran. He expressed confidence in the long-term stability of the military alliance, highlighting that current discussions focus on maritime security and regional stability in the Middle East. According to reports, NATO members are currently deliberating their respective roles in maintaining the safety of essential trade routes amidst heightened tensions.

Rutte pointed out that despite immediate concerns, he remains optimistic about the future of NATO, citing increased financial commitments from European allies and Canada aimed at enhancing their defence capabilities. He stated, “When it comes to the more fundamental question of NATO’s future, I’m extremely optimistic.” This optimism stands in contrast to the immediate geopolitical challenges posed by the situation in Iran.

As the strategic Strait of Hormuz becomes the focal point of the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran, concerns are rising regarding its impact on maritime traffic. Recent reports indicate that Iranian actions have led to a decline in tanker traffic, suggesting Tehran’s increasing control over this vital corridor. This rise in tensions follows recent military activities, including US and Israeli airstrikes and subsequent retaliatory measures by the US in the region.
