Babita Pandey has been unaccounted for since May 29 during her trekking expedition in Uttarkashi. The local police report that she was last seen in Raithal village, where CCTV footage captured her alongside two male companions. These individuals are currently being interrogated by authorities as part of the ongoing investigation.

The treks commenced on May 25 when Babita, along with her two friends, embarked from Udham Singh Nagar. They made a brief stop in Dehradun the same day before proceeding to Harsil on May 26. In Harsil, the group explored various locations and continued their travels to Gangotri and other nearby sights during their stay on May 26 and May 27.

By May 28, Babita and her companions were in Raithal village, preparing for their ascent. They departed for Dayara Bugyal on May 29, where they had planned to set up camp at the Goi Base Camp. It was reported that Babita vanished from this location, prompting the initiation of a search and rescue mission.

Progress of the Search Operation

As the days have passed, the search operation has intensified, with significant attention directed towards a lake situated near the last known campsite. Authorities are hopeful that this body of water might yield crucial information regarding her disappearance. The operation currently involves multiple agencies, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and the forest department.

Extensive searches have been conducted across challenging terrains such as forests, slopes, and trekking paths, but to date, no definitive leads have been uncovered. Nevertheless, investigators are optimistic that clues may be uncovered in the vicinity of the lake.

In light of the ongoing efforts, a six-member specialised deep-search team is anticipated to arrive at the site shortly. They will utilise modern equipment to thoroughly assess the depths of the lake and examine the surrounding area for any signs of Babita Pandey.
