The CSR Journal Magazine

Six tourists were rescued after becoming lost and stranded due to dense fog during their descent from Tandulwadi Fort in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The incident occurred on July 3 when the group encountered challenging weather conditions, leading to their distress call to the 112 emergency helpline on Friday evening. Information about the rescue was provided by Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh on Saturday.

Details of the Tourists and Situation

The group of six tourists, which included four men and two women, hailed from Nalasopara, Virar, and Dahanu. They were reportedly on an excursion to the fort located in the picturesque region of Palghar. As the tourists began their descent from Tandulwadi Fort, heavy rainfall, thick fog, and slippery paths severely hindered their progress, leading them to become disoriented in the dense jungle surrounding the area.

Upon receiving the emergency call, personnel from the Saphale police station, including sub-inspector Kailas Khade and constables Ramesh Chaudhari, Hari Chaudhari, and Laxman Bhoye, swiftly mobilised. They collaborated with local police patil Sujit Patil to form a rescue group, aiming to locate the stranded tourists amid difficult conditions.

The rescue team faced significant challenges, including adverse weather and limited visibility due to the fog. Despite these difficulties, they successfully located all six individuals, ensuring their safe return to Tandulwadi village. Following the rescue, the tourists were escorted to Saphale railway station.

Authorities Highlight Safety Measures

In the aftermath of the rescue, Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh emphasised the importance of adhering to safety regulations while visiting mountainous terrains, forts, waterfalls, and other remote tourist attractions during the monsoon season. He urged all citizens and tourists to exercise caution, particularly given the unpredictable weather conditions associated with this time of year.

Deshmukh further stated that in case of emergencies, it is crucial to reach out to the Dial 112 helpline for immediate assistance. The presence of numerous risks during monsoon travels makes it vital for individuals to remain vigilant and prepared to seek help when needed.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers that accompany outdoor activities in such environments, especially during the rainy season. Tourists are advised to plan their excursions carefully and remain aware of their surroundings at all times to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
