Authorities reported that a shooting incident at a bar in Texas resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including the suspected shooter, and left 14 others injured. The incident occurred at Buford’s, a well-known beer garden located in the entertainment district of Austin. Police Chief Lisa Davis provided updates during a press conference shortly after the incident unfolded early Sunday morning.

Police Response and Scene Management

According to Chief Davis, police received dispatches regarding gunfire incident targeting a male. Upon arrival at West 6th Street, officers encountered a man armed with a weapon. Officers engaged the suspect, resulting in three officers returning fire and fatally wounding him. Chief Davis noted that the police department had a significant number of resources available in the vicinity due to the typical activity at local bars during closing time, which allowed for a swift response to the emergency.

Casualties and Injuries Reported

Emergency medical services chief Robert Luckritz stated that three fatalities were confirmed at the location, and those injured in the shooting were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Out of the injured, three individuals are reported to be in critical condition. Luckritz also mentioned that the emergency services received a call at 1:39 AM and that first responders, including paramedics and police officers, arrived within 57 seconds to provide immediate care to victims.

Community and Official Reactions

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson commended the prompt actions of the police and emergency service workers, asserting that their quick response likely prevented additional loss of life. Officials have not disclosed the identity of the shooter, nor have they released any details pertaining to the motive behind the violent incident.
