A CCTV video has revealed the moment when a suspected terrorist shot and killed a Jammu and Kashmir Police constable at point-blank range in Anantnag on Wednesday. The incident occurred in broad daylight near Lal Chowk, a busy marketplace in the area. The footage shows the assailant approaching a police team calmly prior to opening fire at close range, after which he is seen fleeing the scene, causing panic among onlookers.

The victim, identified as Aashiq Hussain Qureshi, aged 35, served as a constable with the 3rd Battalion of the India Reserve (IR) and was a resident of Budgam district. At the time of the incident, he was part of a police unit that was deployed for the security of the Amarnath Yatra, an important pilgrimage in the region. The attack took place around 12.30 pm, according to officials.

Authorities stated that the assailant is believed to have used a motorcycle for a quick getaway, making this a shoot-and-scoot attack. Eyewitnesses reported the chaos that ensued immediately following the shooting as bystanders fled the area in fear.

Victim’s Medical Response and Outcome

Following the shooting, Qureshi sustained critical injuries and was promptly transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag for emergency treatment. Sadly, despite medical intervention, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. This tragic loss highlights the ongoing threats faced by law enforcement personnel in the region, particularly during high-security events like the Amarnath Yatra.
