Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has confirmed that the prospects of a new instalment in the beloved Munna Bhai series are under consideration. In a recent interview with India Today, he acknowledged that discussions about Munna Bhai 3 have been ongoing for several years. However, he emphasised that he is firmly resolved to proceed only when he is entirely satisfied with the script.

Hirani shared that while progress has been made, he does not wish to rush the project. “It’s in the works, but I really can’t defend myself too much because it’s been in the works for a very long time. But we keep picking it up and spending some time on it,” he stated. He reiterated his commitment to producing a sequel that meets high standards, mentioning, “I will do it only when we believe it’s a great script now.”

PK Sequel Considerations

When questioned about the possibility of a sequel to the film PK, Hirani indicated that he often relishes the idea of revisiting that cinematic universe. With the suggestion surfacing in the post-credits of the original film, fans remain hopeful about a continuation. He noted, “Keep thinking about it. Main iska bhi soch raha hoon. Iska bhi sequel banega aur banana padega,” which translates to him very much considering making a sequel as well.

These speculative future projects have excited the audience, with many expressing anticipation about the return of both Munna Bhai and the intriguing narrative established in PK. Hirani’s reflections signal that he is open to exploring these opportunities as long as they align with his creative vision.

Arshad Warsi, who plays the character of Circuit in the Munna Bhai films, joined in the conversation, commenting on the demand for sequels of Hirani’s films. He attributed this to the emotional attachment audiences have formed with the characters, which keeps them longing for more stories. Arshad noted that characters like Pritam and Pedro possess a unique depth that could lead to interesting new tales.

Creative Bond Between Hirani and Warsi

Warsi also spoke about his enduring friendship and collaborative relationship with Hirani, highlighting the positive dynamic they share. He remarked that Hirani’s infectious sense of humour often influences his own approach when they are together, making their conversations enjoyable. “When we are there together, that kind of conversation is good fun,” he outlined, acknowledging the creative spark in their interactions.

In a light-hearted exchange, Hirani responded to Warsi’s remarks by saying that he too finds humour in their discussions. “So when I meet him, I also kind of become like him. And when I step out, then I become a little serious person,” Hirani conveyed. This playful banter underscores the camaraderie that has characterised their long-standing working relationship.

With the release of Pritam and Pedro set for July 3 on JioHotstar, fans are eagerly anticipating not only this upcoming project but also the potential for further sequels in Hirani’s acclaimed filmography. It remains to be seen when these much-awaited projects will come to fruition.
