Rajasthan Royals Struggle With Bowling, Conceding Over 200 Runs For The Eighth Time This IPL Season

The CSR Journal Magazine

In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, Rajasthan Royals (RR) encountered further difficulties with their bowling attack, allowing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to score over 200 runs. This match, held at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday evening, marked the eighth occasion this season that RR has conceded a total exceeding 200 runs.

LSG managed to post an impressive 220 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs, significantly troubling the Royals’ bowling unit. This high-scoring output from LSG continued a troubling trend for RR as their bowlers struggled to effectively contain opposing batters on a pitch well-suited for scoring runs. Data from CricViz indicates that this season marks the second-highest number of instances of conceding 200-plus totals by any team in a single IPL season. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) currently hold the record for the season with nine such totals, while RR closely follows with eight.

The list of teams with the most 200-run totals allowed in a single IPL season now includes: Punjab Kings with nine in 2026, followed by Rajasthan Royals with eight in the same season. Previous seasons have seen Sunrisers Hyderabad (7 in 2024), Rajasthan Royals (7 in 2025), Lucknow Super Giants (7 in 2025), and Punjab Kings (7 in 2025) also exceed these totals.

Match Details and Performance Highlights

During the match against LSG, the Royals won the toss and chose to field first. LSG took full advantage of this decision, starting with a rapid opening partnership between Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh. The duo propelled LSG to a score of 83 runs without loss during the powerplay, marking their fourth-highest total in this phase of the season.

Inglis showcased his batting prowess, achieving a half-century in just 30 balls and partnering with Marsh to form a substantial 109-run opening stand. While Inglis scored 60 runs, his partner Marsh continued to build on the momentum, reaching a 25-ball half-century and concluding the innings with a remarkable tally of 96 runs off 57 balls.

Late innings contributions from LSG captain Rishabh Pant assisted the team in surpassing the 200-run benchmark. However, both Pant and Marsh were run out in the final over, which concluded the LSG innings at 220 runs for five wickets.

In terms of RR’s bowling performance, Yash Raj Punja was able to secure two wickets for 35 runs, while Jofra Archer contributed with one wicket. The inability of the bowling attack to consistently perform at a high level continues to weigh heavily on Rajasthan Royals as they navigate through this challenging season of the IPL.
