Rahul Gandhi Launches Congress Campaign For Uttarakhand Assembly Elections From Almora

The CSR Journal Magazine

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, officially initiated the Congress party’s campaign for the forthcoming Uttarakhand Assembly elections during a public rally held at Simkali Ground in Almora. This event marked an important milestone as the party gears up for the elections in the region.

Attending the rally were several prominent Congress leaders, including Uttarakhand Congress in-charge Kumari Selja, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya, and PCC President Ganesh Godiyal. The gathering drew a notable crowd, with numerous attendees not just from Almora but also from surrounding districts in the Kumaon area.

The public meeting was characterised by widespread enthusiasm among the attendees, reflecting an active engagement in the political process as the election date approaches.

Kumari Selja Speaks on Party’s Prospects

Ahead of the rally, Kumari Selja expressed her optimism about the Congress party’s chances, stating that the forthcoming elections represent a “game of truth and falsehood,” asserting that the truth would prevail in the end. She highlighted the growing enthusiasm among the local populace, suggesting that this rally would showcase the party’s momentum.

In a statement to the media, Selja claimed a shift in public sentiment, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) popularity is reportedly declining while Rahul Gandhi’s standing is rising. She noted, “You have seen that the BJP’s graph has been plummeting while Rahul Gandhi’s graph is on an incline,” indicating a potential shift in voter preferences as the elections approach.

Selja’s comments reflect a broader narrative within Congress as they attempt to regain ground in Uttarakhand, a state that has seen various party dynamics shift over recent electoral cycles.

Community Engagement and Rahul Gandhi’s Past Visits

Congress MLA Lakhpat Butola commented on the significance of Rahul Gandhi’s visit, expressing that it was a matter of great pride for the party and its supporters. He observed that many residents were keen to meet Gandhi, framing the event as a celebratory occasion for the Congress party.

Butola also referenced Gandhi’s previous visits to Garhwal, emphasising the leader’s compassionate actions during the 2013 disaster. Notably, Gandhi trekked to Kedarnath on foot to demonstrate solidarity with those affected by the tragedy, reinforcing his commitment to community engagement.

Additionally, Gandhi is set to visit ‘Hulk Gym’ in Kotdwar, owned by local resident Deepak Kumar, who is also known as ‘Mohammad Deepak’. This visit serves to acknowledge Deepak’s bravery in protecting a 70-year-old shopkeeper, Ahmed, from an alleged attack by a right-wing group. This initiative reflects Gandhi’s focus on engaging with grassroots figures in the community.
