On August 10, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several prominent political figures conveyed their birthday greetings to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. This gesture took place against the backdrop of escalating political tensions in the state, primarily revolving around protests by JPSC-JSSC aspirants.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi wished Soren a long life and good health. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also sent his best wishes, echoing sentiments of prosperity and longevity for the Chief Minister.
Other leaders, including MK Stalin, chief of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of AAP, added their messages of goodwill. Notably, Minister G Kishan Reddy expressed hopes that Soren’s leadership would continue to foster progress for the people of Jharkhand.
Political Standoff Over JPSC-JSSC Protests
The birthday celebrations coincided with a significant political standoff in Jharkhand, driven by escalating protests from JPSC-JSSC aspirants. The students are demanding the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination, a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in the recruitment process, and reforms for future procedures.
On the same day, Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi, along with other BJP leaders, was reportedly detained by police while protesting outside Soren’s residence. Marandi asserted that the ongoing protests reflect students’ frustrations and called for a transparent investigation into the recruitment practices.
BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo urged Soren to take heed of the students’ demands, suggesting that the protests were a response to his leadership. He emphasised that the students and their families had indirectly supported Soren’s return to power and expected reciprocal action.

In light of the protests, Chief Minister Soren addressed the concerns of the agitating students. He assured them that justice would prevail and that those involved in any alleged irregularities would face strict consequences.

Amidst these developments, the Enforcement Directorate initiated an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) regarding the alleged examination irregularities. This move highlights the seriousness of the situation and the government’s commitment to addressing potential wrongdoing.
