Patna Police Solve 10-Year-Old Girl’s Abduction-Murder Case in 72 Hours

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Patna Police have successfully resolved the case of a 10-year-old girl who was abducted and murdered, accomplishing this within a span of 72 hours. The girl, who went missing on the morning of April 22, had left her Begumpur home to deliver milk, after which she did not return. Her body was discovered the following day, wrapped in a blanket and hidden in a narrow alley. This disturbing incident led to widespread outrage in the community, with many locals expressing fears regarding the influence of the illegal liquor trade in the area.

Police Employ Tracker Dog In Investigation

Following the girl’s abduction, the Patna Police quickly initiated a comprehensive investigation led by senior officers, Kartikeya Sharma and Gaurav Kumar. Their team included forensic science laboratory (FSL) personnel and a dog squad, which played a crucial role in the case. The breakthrough came two days later when a tracker dog named Simba identified leads from blood-stained clothing and a pair of slippers that had been discarded in a garbage dump. This evidence directed investigators to the rental home of the main suspect, Ranjit Kumar, located just 200 metres from where the girl was last seen.

Kumar, who works as a street vendor selling stickers, was brought in for questioning. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime. He claimed he had been grooming the girl over a period of two months, enticing her with free stickers. On the day of the incident, he allegedly lured her into his residence with the intention of committing sexual assault. When the girl resisted and attempted to call for help, he is said to have assaulted her with a traditional grinding stone until she succumbed to her injuries.

After the murder, Kumar attempted to conceal the body under his bed before planning to dispose of it in a local pond later that night. However, during this process, he became apprehensive when he noticed a passing police patrol and consequently abandoned the girl’s body in the alley.

Evidence Collected from Suspect’s Home

The police conducted a thorough search of Kumar’s residence, where they recovered the murder weapon and the blood-stained clothing worn during the incident. While the suspect has admitted to killing the girl, law enforcement officials are currently awaiting the formal post-mortem report to establish whether sexual assault occurred.

This tragic case has reignited discussions about child safety and the pervasive issue of illegal activities in the region. The quick action of the police, coupled with the capability of the tracker dog, has been commended by locals, who are seeking reassurance in the wake of this horrifying event. Authorities emphasise the importance of community vigilance and support in tackling such crimes effectively.

The incident has raised critical questions about the safety of children in the area and highlights the need for stricter measures to prevent such tragedies from recurring in the future. The Patna Police continue their efforts to ensure justice for the victim while fostering community trust and cooperation.
