Noida, Greater Noida Roll Out 45 Electric Buses to Boost Jewar Airport Connectivity

The CSR Journal Magazine

The introduction of 45 electric buses aims to enhance connectivity to Jewar Airport and bolster public transport in Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the service, emphasising its contribution towards providing travellers with safer, cleaner, and more convenient commuting options while pursuing green mobility objectives.

In conjunction with this launch, the Chief Minister also opened a new bus depot in Noida, which is expected to add vital capacity to the transport network. This development aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure in anticipation of the forthcoming Jewar Airport.

Yogi Adityanath indicated that the electric buses are set to commence operations by June 15, with a target of deploying 500 electric vehicles based on demand for after-flight services at the airport. The establishment of electric bus manufacturing plants by Tata Motors and Ashoka Leyland in Uttar Pradesh further supports this initiative.

Enhanced Travel Options and Environmental Benefits

The launch of the new electric bus fleet represents a significant advancement in public transportation across Noida, Greater Noida, and Greater Noida West. Local officials confirmed that a total of 100 electric buses, including 10 double-decker units, have been allocated and are prepared to begin operations from the Sector-90 bus depot. This initiative is expected to improve intercity connectivity to essential residential, commercial, and transport hubs, particularly the emerging Noida International Airport at Jewar.

Additionally, a modern charging facility has been installed at the Sector-90 depot, featuring high-speed charging stations capable of fully charging the buses within approximately two hours. This infrastructure aims to facilitate uninterrupted service during peak hours.

The electric buses not only promise a cleaner transport alternative but are also anticipated to lower fuel expenses and reduce emissions within one of the National Capital Region’s (NCR) rapidly growing urban areas. The service will be managed in partnership between the Noida Authority and the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC).

Key Benefits for Residents

This new service will be particularly advantageous for the residents of Greater Noida West, an area that has historically faced challenges with limited public transport options. The upcoming fare structure is expected to range from Rs 10 to Rs 30, providing an economical travel choice for office workers, students, and daily commuters. Enhanced links to Jewar Airport and other significant locations are likely to decrease the reliance on personal vehicles, thereby mitigating traffic congestion within the region.

The newly launched electric buses are set to operate between Noida, Greater Noida, YEIDA, and Jewar Airport, making airport access more straightforward for locals, employees, and future travellers in the vicinity. With these developments, residents will gain access to an eco-friendly transport option aimed at curbing vehicular emissions.

During the launching ceremony, the Chief Minister also underscored that the Noida bus depot’s inauguration would strengthen public transport and align with the increasing demand for connectivity linked to Jewar Airport and nearby urban areas. This initiative represents a concerted effort to enhance the overall travel experience for residents.
