NIA Arrests Two Key Accused in 2022 Amta Bomb Blast Case as Probe Intensifies

The CSR Journal Magazine

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended two key suspects linked to the deadly bomb blast that occurred in Amta, West Bengal, in 2022. The arrests were made on June 24, following extensive searches across three different locations associated with the suspects. The NIA identified these individuals as Asfar Middya and Entajul Middya, who are both residents of the Amta area in Howrah (Rural).

These men were reportedly involved in the illegal manufacturing of crude bombs near Chandrapur Bazar in the jurisdiction of the Amta police station. The NIA’s actions were prompted by information regarding their control over the bomb-making activities, which led to significant public danger.

Background of the Incident

The incident in question took place on February 23, 2022, when bombs being manufactured under the direction of the Middya brothers exploded. This explosion resulted in significant injuries to four individuals: Jahadhar Mollah, Mohabbat Mollah, Moinur Rahaman, and Sk Maharam. Tragically, Sk Maharam later succumbed to his injuries, highlighting the severe consequences of the alleged criminal operations.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the primary purpose of these explosives was to instigate fear and intimidation among local residents. The NIA stated that the arrested individuals exercised considerable control over the entire bomb manufacturing process, which raises concerns about the broader implications for public safety in the region.

The NIA assumed responsibility for the case in April 2024, taking over from local law enforcement. Since then, a thorough investigation has been underway, outlined under case number RC-08-2024/NIA/DLI. This transition reflects a strategic approach to tackling serious criminal activities at a national level.

Ongoing Investigations and Prior Arrests

The authorities emphasised the importance of dismantling such illegal operations that pose a threat to community safety. The NIA’s efforts are directed not only at prosecuting those directly involved but also at preventing future incidents through comprehensive investigative strategies.

With the arrests of Asfar and Entajul Middya, the NIA continues its mission to address serious criminal activities and restore a sense of security in the affected areas. The agency’s ongoing investigations will likely yield further developments in this case, as officials work to bring all responsible parties to justice.
