Mumbai Police Arrest Ex-Gym Trainer Rhythm Panchal for Sexual Exploitation of Women

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 37-year-old man, Rhythm Panchal, formerly a gym trainer, has been apprehended by the Mumbai Police for allegedly luring women to his residence and sexually exploiting them under the guise of spiritual healing rituals. Known locally as ‘Bhondu Baba,’ Panchal is accused of invoking non-conventional Aghori practices to manipulate vulnerable individuals seeking remedies for their problems. More than 60 women have reportedly filed complaints against him, detailing similar experiences of exploitation.

Prior to adopting the persona of a self-styled godman, Panchal had led a typical life working as a fitness trainer. However, he allegedly transitioned to this role in pursuit of quick financial gains. Capitalising on people’s faith and lack of awareness, he began to conduct sessions every Thursday and Saturday from 8 pm to 7 am, claiming to possess divine capabilities that could heal various ailments, particularly targeting women facing infertility issues.

According to police reports, Panchal would summon women to his home late at night, where he subjected them to inappropriate acts under the pretext of performing spiritual rituals. To fund these dubious treatments, he demanded exorbitant amounts of money, as well as extravagant items such as expensive alcohol, cigarettes, live chickens, and goat livers. Testimonies also suggest he performed acts of intimidation against complainants by dispatching hired individuals to threaten them.

Uncovering the Deceptive Practices

The illegal operations of this alleged fraudster were revealed when one of the victims sought assistance from advocate Siddharth Sharma, a former BJP corporator. Sharma aided in escalating the issue to the authorities, which eventually led to the arrest of Panchal. This incident has raised further concerns about his connections, as there are claims that he had political affiliations that may have shielded him from scrutiny earlier.

As part of his alleged manipulative tactics, Panchal purportedly went so far as to feign possession, using cigarettes as part of so-called exorcism rituals. Police officials have indicated that this was meant to intimidate and control his victims as they fell deeper into his web of deceit. The disturbing nature of these allegations has prompted a thorough investigation by the Dindoshi Police.

The investigation’s scope is expected to widen, as more victims continue to come forward. The police are currently looking into additional reports and evaluating the extent of Panchal’s alleged fraudulent activities. As each complaint is registered, the authorities aim to ensure that justice is served for those who have suffered under the guise of Panchal’s false spiritual practices.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Dindoshi Police have established a case against Rhythm Panchal under various serious charges, including sexual assault and fraud. Given the significant number of individuals who have stepped forward with their grievances, law enforcement officials are preparing for a potentially expansive legal battle. The community remains vigilant as more potential victims may emerge, highlighting ongoing concerns about fraudulent spiritual healers operating in urban centres.

Community members and activists are calling for stricter regulations on individuals presenting themselves as spiritual healers, emphasising the need for awareness and education to protect vulnerable groups. The details surrounding Panchal’s arrest have sparked broader conversations regarding the exploitation of faith for monetary gain, urging immediate action to safeguard innocent individuals.

As this case unfolds, legal experts and civil rights advocates are closely monitoring the proceedings to ensure that proper justice is achieved while addressing the larger context of spiritual exploitation in society. The community is hopeful that the investigation will lead to a clearer understanding of how such fraudulent practices can be curtailed in the future.
