The CSR Journal Magazine

PM Modi on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, during which the two leaders discussed the evolving security situation in West Asia and underscored the need for de-escalation and diplomacy.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders exchanged views on recent developments in the region amid heightened tensions and growing concerns over stability and energy security.

PM Modi expressed India’s deep concern over the escalation and reiterated New Delhi’s support for Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

PM Modi Reiterates Call For Dialogue

During the conversation, PM Modi strongly condemned attacks targeting Kuwait’s sovereignty and reaffirmed India’s consistent position favouring restraint and peaceful resolution of disputes.

He called for immediate de-escalation and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to ensure the earliest restoration of peace and stability in West Asia.

The Prime Minister also thanked the Emir for his personal attention towards the welfare and safety of the large Indian community residing in Kuwait.

India and Kuwait share close bilateral ties, and the welfare of Indian nationals in the Gulf region remains a key priority for New Delhi, particularly during periods of heightened geopolitical tensions.

Rising Tensions Add To Regional Concerns

The conversation took place against the backdrop of increasing instability in West Asia and concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.

US President Donald Trump has stated that the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would remain in place until a final agreement is reached with Tehran.

Speaking to reporters after attending the NBA Finals in New York, Trump expressed optimism over ongoing negotiations with Iran and said a breakthrough could be achieved within days.

“We’re in the final throes of a very good deal that will not allow, in any way or form, nuclear weapons. And the Strait will open up right away. It’ll open up immediately upon signing, which could be in two or three days,” Trump said.

He also reiterated his administration’s policy of maintaining maximum economic pressure on Iran until a formal agreement is concluded.

Focus On Peace And Stability

The latest outreach between India and Kuwait comes as countries across the region and beyond seek to prevent further escalation and safeguard global energy supplies.

Any disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could have far-reaching implications for international trade and oil markets, given that a significant portion of the world’s crude exports passes through the narrow waterway.

India, which depends heavily on energy imports from the Gulf region, has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the preferred path to resolving regional disputes.

The call between PM Modi and the Kuwaiti Emir reflects growing international efforts to contain tensions and ensure stability in a region that remains critical to global energy security and economic growth.
