Marco Rubio Faces Scrutiny for Dismissing Claims that Trump Fell Asleep During Official Meetings

The CSR Journal Magazine

Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, is under fire from Congress after he dismissed allegations that President Donald Trump had fallen asleep during official meetings. During a session of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee on June 4, Rubio was questioned by Democratic Representative Ted Lieu of California, who prompted the Secretary to address assertions regarding the president’s attentiveness in high-stakes discussions.

Lieu played several video clips to substantiate his claims, including cuts from a Cabinet meeting and media coverage of a Memorial Day event with Trump. Notably, footage showed Trump’s eyes shut and his head tilted downward as Rubio spoke. The representative directly challenged Rubio, asking if he had ever seen Trump dozing off in his presence.

Rubio firmly denied the allegations, stating, “That’s false. I’ve never seen him fall asleep.” He attempted to counter the narrative by indicating that Trump has a tendency to operate on very little sleep, citing instances where the president would contact him in the early hours of the morning.

Debate Intensifies Over Trump’s Fitness for Office

As the exchange escalated, Lieu presented additional footage that he argued demonstrated Trump appearing to nod off during a Cabinet session. Lieu emphasised that these observations raised important questions about the president’s ability to perform his duties effectively, particularly regarding issues of national significance.

Rubio, however, maintained his stance, labelling the inquiry as “ridiculous.” He insisted he has always witnessed Trump engaged and active during meetings. The Secretary of State defended Trump’s work ethic, claiming that the president works prolonged hours without sufficient rest, contradicting the claims made by Lieu.

In response to Rubio’s determination to dismiss the allegations, Lieu retorted, “Just keep lying, just keep lying.” This confrontation occurred while public discourse regarding Trump’s health has intensified, with questions surrounding the president’s physical appearance rising in recent weeks.

White House Maintains President’s Health Is Robust

In light of these exchanges, social media remained abuzz, with commentators like Brian Krassenstein circulating videos indicating that Trump’s appearance seemed altered, suggesting possible health concerns. Lieu echoed these assertions online, expressing that Trump’s nodding off during meetings signifies potential cognitive issues.

Contrary to these allegations, the White House has consistently contended that President Trump remains in excellent health. A medical evaluation that followed Trump’s recent physical check-up at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center stated he is “fully fit” for his presidential responsibilities and demonstrated “strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and overall physical function.”

The official medical report addressed recurring bruises on Trump’s hands as a result of frequent handshaking and attributed mild swelling in his lower legs to past conditions. The report further recommended an ongoing regimen of physical exercise and weight management along with the continued use of low-dose aspirin.
