Man Drowns After Fainting in Gujarat Swimming Pool

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 33-year-old man drowned after he fainted and fell into a swimming pool at a resort in Rajkot, Gujarat, on Sunday, according to local police. The victim, identified as Ajay Rathod, was celebrating his son’s birthday and his wedding anniversary at the time of the incident. Witnesses reported that the family had arrived at the resort around 11 am for the occasion, which included festivities for both events.

Surveillance footage from the area reportedly shows Ajay relaxing at the edge of the swimming pool. As he observed his nine-year-old son, Vihaan, playing nearby, he stood up briefly and then fainted, collapsing directly into the water. Police Inspector SG Rathod confirmed that the lack of immediate action from bystanders contributed to the tragic outcome.

Aftermath and Responses

Despite Ajay losing consciousness in the pool, bystanders allegedly remained stationary and did not attempt to assist him, as indicated by the CCTV video. This inaction was critical, as Ajay drowned before anyone could intervene. Initially, his family was unaware of the grave situation and thought he had simply fallen while bathing. It was only later, when he did not resurface, that they realised he was unconscious.

Upon recognising the emergency, family members retrieved him from the pool and performed CPR in an attempt to revive him. However, even after being rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The police stated that Ajay’s death was initially classified as drowning, pending further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his fainting and eventual drowning.

According to Inspector Rathod, a detailed post-mortem examination is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death. He noted that clarity regarding how Ajay fainted will be established once the medical report is available. This investigation aims to provide answers to Ajay’s family and the community regarding this unfortunate event.

Community Reaction and Investigation

The incident has sparked concern within the local community and prompted discussions about the responsibilities of bystanders in emergency situations. Many individuals expressed shock and sorrow over the tragedy, questioning the lack of immediate assistance provided to Ajay during the critical moments after he fell into the pool.

The police have initiated a formal inquiry to account for the events leading up to the incident and assess whether any legal actions are necessary based on the findings from the post-mortem. Local authorities emphasised the importance of awareness and preparedness in public settings, especially near pools and other potentially hazardous areas.

As the family continues to mourn their loss, the investigation remains a priority for local law enforcement. Ajay Rathod’s death serves as a sober reminder of the vital importance of prompt action in emergencies and the necessity for bystanders to be vigilant and ready to assist those in distress.
