A 27-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with the alleged murder of his friend near Khajuri Khas Metro Station in northeast Delhi. The incident reportedly took place on June 5, 2026, during a disagreement that emerged while both individuals were consuming cannabis. The accused, Shifayat, a resident of Chand Bagh, is said to have acted out of vengeance after being slapped during an argument.

Authorities revealed that the victim, identified as Azharuddin, aged 40, worked as a waiter and resided in Chand Bagh. On June 8, his semi-decomposed body was discovered near the metro station, prompting the Khajuri Khas Police Station to initiate a case. A senior police officer stated that upon recovering Azharuddin’s body, crime scene investigators and forensic teams analysed the situation to determine the cause of death, which is yet to be officially established through a postmortem examination.

Investigating officers employed technical evidence and various leads that eventually led them to identify and arrest Shifayat. Initial reports indicate that during questioning, the accused allegedly revealed the series of events that transpired leading up to the incident.

Confrontation Leads to Fatal Attack

The argument between Shifayat and Azharuddin reportedly stemmed from a minor issue, escalating unexpectedly when Azharuddin allegedly slapped Shifayat. Following this confrontation, both men began to exit the area when Azharuddin reportedly attempted to climb over a wall and fell, injuring himself in the process. Holding resentment from the previous altercation, Shifayat allegedly retaliated by attacking Azharuddin with a stone, inflicting grievous injuries that resulted in his death.

After the alleged crime, Shifayat supposedly attempted to conceal his actions by covering Azharuddin’s body with bricks in an effort to hide the evidence. He subsequently fled the scene of the incident. A police official noted that further investigations are currently underway to ascertain additional details regarding the crime.

The developments in this case have raised concerns about violence among peers under the influence of substances, prompting calls for greater awareness of substance abuse and its potential consequences. The investigation continues as the police work to gather more information that could illuminate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
