Maharashtra CM Fadnavis Delays MPSC Computer-Based Exams Rollout Till August 2027

The CSR Journal Magazine

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a postponement of the rollout for the computer-based examinations conducted by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) to August 2027. This decision follows persistent requests from numerous student organisations advocating for reform in the examination process.

On July 16, CM Fadnavis convened a meeting in Mumbai with MPSC Chairman Vivek Bhimanwar, the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, and key officials from the General Administration Department to address these concerns. The discussions focused on enhancing transparency and security within the recruitment process, which Fadnavis identified as a top priority.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed the need to ensure that the examination infrastructure is capable and ready for transition. He emphasised that the existing processes need to be preserved until a robust and transparent system is fully established.

Timeline For Implementation of Reforms

During the discussions, CM Fadnavis stated the importance of a phased approach for implementing the computer-based examination system. He highlighted that adequate preparation time is essential for students and organisations involved.

As part of this phased implementation strategy, the Chief Minister proposed that the MPSC should continue conducting examinations under the current system until the specified date in 2027. This transition aims to support not only the students but also administrative bodies as they prepare for the new examination format.

Fadnavis asserted that the timeline would allow both aspirants and the relevant agencies to enhance their readiness and adapt to the imminent changes more effectively. He further directed the MPSC to take necessary steps in alignment with this gradual transition plan.

Steps Forward for Student Communities

The Chief Minister underscored the significance of ensuring timely declaration of examination results and conducting tests as scheduled. He affirmed that the integrity and efficiency of the examination process must be preserved during this period of change.

Fadnavis also commended the initiatives undertaken by the MPSC to advance examination practices. He recognised the efforts made thus far, which seek to fortify the quality of recruitment processes in Maharashtra.

As student organisations continue to advocate for improved examination conditions, this delay allows stakeholders to actively engage in dialogues about best practices and expectations for future assessments. The focus remains on the importance of a transparent, efficient, and reliable system as the state prepares for significant reform in public service examinations.
