‘Maa, Maati, Manush’ Betrayed: PM Modi Targets TMC Govt over RG Kar Hospital Case

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has alleged that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has betrayed its foundational principles of ‘Maa, Maati, Manush’ during an election rally in Arambagh, Hooghly. He characterised the TMC as a “ruthless” government whose credibility has diminished significantly. Modi asserted that the government has faltered in its administration, leading to a scenario where law and order is compromised.

During his address, he referenced recent court actions, particularly by the Supreme Court, which highlighted the TMC’s alleged obstruction of justice in the coal scam investigation. The Prime Minister stated that such actions by the TMC represent a serious threat to democracy and have led to disillusionment among the populace.

He also pointed to the extent of violence and lawlessness in the state, alleging that the TMC has allowed criminal elements to operate freely. Modi suggested that the TMC has become detached from its roots and has failed in its duty to protect the citizens, particularly, women, who reportedly face increasing violence.

Specifically Highlighting Incidents of Crime

Modi cited specific cases to substantiate his claims of escalating violence in West Bengal. He mentioned the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case as indicative of the lack of public confidence in the TMC’s governance, stating that the only recourse for justice was through intervention by the judiciary. He remarked that before any genuine government investigation could commence, the community had to resort to legal channels.

The Prime Minister further noted that incidents involving violence against women, including rapes and gang rapes, have become commonplace, expressing concern over the safety of women and alleging TMC leaders’ involvement in such cases. He referenced multiple serious incidents that he claimed demonstrate an overarching culture of impunity fostered by the TMC.

Modi also raised concerns over the economic implications of TMC policies, particularly in relation to the plight of farmers. He accused TMC syndicates of exploiting farmers by purchasing agricultural produce at unreasonably low prices while inflating retail costs, leading to financial distress among agrarian communities.

Future Commitments from BJP for Women and Farmers

In anticipation of a potential BJP victory, Prime Minister Modi outlined various commitments aimed at improving the welfare of women and farmers in West Bengal. He asserted that enhancing women’s empowerment is a priority for the prospective BJP government and introduced the “Lakhpati Didi” initiative, promising support to help women achieve financial independence, potentially earning over one lakh rupees annually.

Modi indicated that the initiative would benefit approximately seventy-five lakh women across the state, ensuring they have access to employment opportunities and financial resources such as Mudra loans worth up to twenty lakh rupees. This, he contended, would enable them to pursue livelihoods of their choice.

With the first phase of polling concluding with a notable voter turnout of ninety-one point seventy-eight per cent, Modi expressed that the growing participation reflects an awakening among the populace against the TMC. He urged voters to consider the BJP as a viable alternative in the upcoming phases.

The second phase of polling for the remaining Assembly seats is expected to occur on April 29, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4, amidst heightened security across various constituencies.
