Kejriwal Criticises PM Modi Over Response to Trump’s Attack on Indian Sailors

The CSR Journal Magazine

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has reproached Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding recent attacks on commercial vessels carrying Indian nationals. During his remarks on Thursday, Kejriwal accused the central government of jeopardising India’s “sovereignty, pride, and the lives of its citizens” in relation to the incidents that transpired in the Strait of Hormuz.

He specifically took issue with a post made by PM Modi on X, in which the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for congratulating him on his tenure as India’s longest-serving elected leader. Kejriwal questioned the appropriateness of the Prime Minister’s thanks, considering the recent military actions reportedly targeting foreign-flagged ships with Indian crew members.

“PM Modi is thanking Trump. Thank you for exactly what? For attacking ships with Indians on board and killing Indian nationals? The situation has become hopelessly embarrassing for our country now,” asserted Kejriwal during his address. His comments underscore a growing concern regarding the safety and treatment of Indian sailors in international waters.

Call for Strong Leadership

Kejriwal’s remarks emphasised the need for decisive leadership to safeguard India’s interests in the global arena. He articulated that the country cannot allow external leaders, such as Trump, to take liberties with Indian citizens and matters of national significance. “India needs a strong Prime Minister. Trump cannot be allowed to do whatever he pleases with our country and our people,” Kejriwal stated, indicating the urgency for a more robust stance in international dealings.

This criticism reflects broader concerns about India’s foreign policy and its implications for national security, particularly regarding the safety of citizens abroad. Kejriwal’s urgency resonates with a segment of the public that is demanding accountability from government leaders in the face of international conflicts that impact Indian nationals.

The former Delhi Chief Minister has called on the government to address these security issues seriously, particularly after repeated instances of Indian sailors facing threats in conflict zones. He claimed that the nation’s current leadership is failing to ensure the safety and dignity of its citizens abroad.

Ministry of External Affairs Responds

The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on Thursday, revealing that three merchant vessels with Indian crew members encountered attacks from US military forces off the coast of Oman within the past four days. Tragically, these incidents resulted in the loss of three Indian nationals’ lives.

The government has reportedly taken strong steps to address these incidents with the United States, reiterating the importance of diplomatic engagement on matters of maritime security. This response highlights India’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of its citizens in international waters and signifies a commitment to uphold national interests in foreign relations.

Amid rising tensions in maritime regions, it remains crucial for the Indian government to navigate these complex dynamics efficiently. The recent incidents not only highlight challenges faced by Indian crew members but also spark discourse on India’s diplomatic strategies and security protocols regarding its citizens working abroad.
