Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has pledged to enhance the state’s development through a series of initiatives announced during the first Cabinet meeting. He emphasised the importance of all-round development and stated that his administration aims to provide new momentum to progress in the state. Significant decisions made during the meeting included the introduction of free bus passes for school and college students, considered vital for educational accessibility.

Shivakumar also announced plans to fill 56,000 vacant positions across government departments. The Chief Minister highlighted the need for prioritising employment opportunities for Kannadigas in the private sector, asserting that this approach will help sustain local talent in the workforce.

In addition to these measures, Shivakumar revealed the launch of a new initiative named the “Youth Employment Bridge,” designed to equip young individuals with globally competitive skills. To further engage youth, 10,000 “Bharat Jodo Youth Associations” will be established across both rural and urban areas, each receiving a financial grant of Rs 10 lakh.

Focus on Bengaluru’s Infrastructure and Economy

During the Cabinet meeting, CM Shivakumar paid special attention to Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka and a significant IT hub in India. He announced a one-time exemption from occupancy certificate regulations for residential buildings in the city, aimed at easing construction constraints. Furthermore, a substantial appropriation of Rs 2,000 crore was allocated for the enhancement of Bengaluru’s road infrastructure, addressing longstanding transportation issues.

The Chief Minister noted that approximately 2.6 million IT professionals reside in Bengaluru, underlining the city’s pivotal role in various sectors. He urged officials to reflect on their contributions towards fostering growth and innovation in the region, stressing the need to maintain Bengaluru’s status as a leading global city.
