IPL 2026: Klaasen and Kishan Lead Sunrisers Hyderabad to 235/4 Against Punjab Kings

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a stellar display of batting, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured a commanding total of 235 runs for the loss of four wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 6. The standout performances of Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan were instrumental in setting this remarkable score, with Klaasen scoring 69 runs off 43 balls and Kishan contributing 55 runs off 32 balls. The innings was built on a solid foundation laid by openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who provided an explosive start.

Impactful Opening Stand

The opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head wasted no time in attacking the PBKS bowlers. Sharma struck a quick 35 runs off just 13 deliveries, showcasing aggressive intent with four sixes before being dismissed by Lockie Ferguson in the fourth over. Head followed with a blistering 38 runs off 19 balls, contributing to a remarkable Powerplay that concluded with SRH at 79 for 1, achieving a run rate exceeding 13 runs per over. After the initial wave of aggression, the Sunrisers had managed to score 86 runs for two wickets by the end of the seventh over.

Strong Middle Order Performance

After the early breakthroughs, Kishan and Klaasen took charge, forming a formidable partnership. Kishan capitalized on his good fortune, having survived three dropped catches during his innings. He scored a brisk 55 runs, highlighted by four sixes and two boundaries. Klaasen, meanwhile, displayed remarkable power-hitting skills, reaching his fifty in just 32 deliveries and finishing the innings unbeaten at 69 runs, which included four sixes and three fours. The duo’s partnership of 88 runs off 48 balls significantly bolstered SRH’s scorecard.

Successful Finish with Contributions from Lower Order

A late flourish from Nitish Kumar Reddy, who remained not out on 29 runs from 13 balls, ensured that SRH maintained their momentum. His cameo, in conjunction with Klaasen, culminated in a swift 63-run partnership off just 32 balls, helping the team to close their innings on a high note.

Challenging Day for PBKS Bowlers

It was a testing outing for the bowlers from Punjab Kings, who struggled to contain the scoring despite their best efforts. Marco Jansen had an especially tough day, conceding 61 runs in his four overs without claiming a wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal was the only bowler to keep the runs relatively in check, finishing his spell with figures of one wicket for 32 runs. Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson, and Vijaykumar Vyshak each managed to secure a wicket, but their efforts were not enough to rein in the rampant SRH lineup during the latter stages of the innings.
